This thread is only meant for the person who put " ? " as there comment on my picture in the last 5 minutes. Get a life. If you want, then PM me and explain which photo is yours ( probably haven't even submitted one), then I will give you a complete critique of it.
Apologies to every1 else for taking up a thread but i'm sick of idiots who don't even have the balls too sign their NON-COMMENTS. |

I don't think I like this contest what a contest you get riped for what we think is good but if people have better things to do then ripe you,(@*$#%@ off!!) And one more thing!!.I hope the people who leave these ugly comments have day jobs.

I think sometimes we tend to forget about all the good comments we get when we see the few bad ones some people may leave. I like it when people leave their names and I've done it a few times too. I may start doing that all the time. For me..even when I've submitted a photo that didn't do so well in here, I've still gotten helpful and nice comments from the majority. There have been a few comments that hit me the wrong way...I'll admit it's upsetting...we're only human, after all. But after a while you'll learn to just let those pass and pay attention to the ones that are helpful...constructive..complimentary. At least..that's what I've tried to do lately.
Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.
(unless you feel a need to, of course)

A "?" to me would mean that the person did not "get it." Not that hard to figure out. But I wouldn't take offense at it. If you're that sensitive about comments, then you should not be participating in this site.
P.S. Is anyone noticing that this site is sometimes SLOOOOW to load pages...?? |

I don't think it's about being sensitive, it's about wasting everybody's time -- both commenter and photographer.
A ? might mean I don't get the title, don't get the picture, don't understand why you shot it that way instead of another, don't know why you left it grainy, etc etc etc
It's pretty much totally unhelpful -- at least a "great" or "sucks" tells you something fairly specific.

This is exactly what i figured may happen with the recent voting rule changes. You can't force people to comment or change the way they comment by introducing new voting requirements. It was working just fine before. It's a huge waste of time! |

I have always said just make all the voting open after the voting occurs. Your vote after all is your most truthful comment.
Let everyone see how everyone votes. It would show any photogs off if they are trying to stick other photogs and all kinds of stuff. I never understood why anyone wouldn't want to let people know how they vote unless they are afraid of standing by their vote. :-) |

True - I just don't like the new rules! Personally, i vote on every single image so it doesn't affect me. I'm strongly against forcing someone to either vote on 95% or comment on 25% because it will cause certain individuals to just go through the motions. And yes, there was nothing stopping them from doing it originally, but now it's 'more in your face'. |

A guy who has cast 1500 votes and left 625 comments isn't stetching for a submission requirement.
mpmcgeehan: Sorry for any site slowness you've noticed. Our site is hit very hard on Sunday nights and all through Monday. We're working hard to optimize the site. We know our last few problem areas, and we're working on ways to optimize those as well. Short of moving to a dedicated server (a move that requires something we don't have -- money!), it's the best we can do.

Yup, and it would count toward the 25% comments needed to submit next week. Takes a lot less time than voting for 95%. I try to comment on most of the entries, but for some I'm just at a loss, don't know what to say, and I was taught that that's a good time to keep quiet. |

I too have gotten upset over comments like "This is stupid" or "What's the point" but have found it to be a driving force to do better. What also helps is that there are more comments that are constructive than not. Take your anger and turn it to your benefit and keep in mind, If they are picking on you, then they are leaving someone else alone that might not be able to handle it as well. Daryl Brown |

Since you brought up the "M" word - what kind of money are we talking about? I, for one, find the voting pages and the forums extremely slow recently. I know you want to keep the site free, but how about a voluntary donation to support the site? If we could get 100 people to pay for the server, how much per month would it be?

I''d be willing to help as well. Would rather see a yearly fee though. Perhaps you could keep the site open for everyone but offer a few "perks" for those who choose to pay membership fees? If enough people are willing to contribute I''m not sure that it would cost that much, would it? Just an idea....
K
oops..had to edit...just wanted to be sure that you knew I''d be willing to contribute without "perks" or membership as well. :P
