So, not all of us live in a USA city and states location. Should I use city and province?
Not exactly a state.... and I now the DNMC flags fly so easily here.
Maybe I should sit this one out... sounded kinda fun though.
Although fours and below are even less fun.

Not everyone reads the challenge description, just the title, so you'll probably be ok putting in the city name only, or the city name & province, or just leaving out the place name alltogether and just giving it a "normal" title.

I don't know why that was included in the description anyway, there are certainly a lot of people on this site who are NOT from the US.

But some challenges do seem to be US-centric, I'm not looking forward to the annual fireworks challenge on July 4th which basically only Americans can enter.

As for this diners challenge, I don't think there are any "typical" diners here in Newfoundland, I've never seen one anyway. There are no drive-ins either (we just don't have the weather for it).

You could enter to pay homage to the U.S. It's not as good as a monetary donation, but it'll do. ;)

And where do I go to photograph fireworks on July 4th? I'm thousands of kilometres away from the US.

You don't necessarily have to photograph actual fireworks...get out of the box.

Besides, wouldn't it be great if a non-American ribboned?

That or build your own fireworks with household chemicals...

my "inspiration" for this challenge suggestion was a show on TV with the same name.

//www.foodnetwork.com/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/index.html

while i had in mind those 50's looking diners here in the states as an example, our non-US friends should feel free to photograph a local pub, cafe, etc. that falls within the spirit of the challenge.

I would only be able to enter by thinking out of the box. Use of fireworks here is illegal for all but a few days a year. July 4 certainly isn't one of them.

I'd also guess that the "summer" driving season would be a bit difficult to pull off for those in the Southern Hemisphere at this time of year. Perhaps you could roll down your windows and just drive around until you get a cold... ;-p

If only it included Drive-Thru's we could have 189 photos of McDonald's from around the globe...

now THAT is an interesting idea for another challenge! "Photograph McDonald's [or other worldwide food chain?] in your location, esp those in odd or interesting places"

;-)

He does more than just eateries, but Randy Fox (congoeels) is one of my favorite photographers on Flickr.

Take a look...

what's fun is you can look at a map and find locations that the show has highlighted in your area:

diners, drive ins and dives -- search your area

Again, these are places visited by that show. I might have to go to each one and try out the food -- that would be fun!

My family was actually in one of the shows. Well, my dad's back was. They were eating at The Nook in MN when the show was filming there. :)

We have an American Diner in Essen, Germany and I hope I can manage to travel to the location and make a photo. Some traditions have reached us over the great water ;-)
