i mainly use lightroom for touching up my portraits, i have gotten fairly quick and efficient with it the local brushes are really great. will i see much improvement or faster retouching with this software?

Mike, if you are doing a lot of portrait work, it might come in handy. Or if you are not comfortable with hand re-touching.

For anything but portraits, it is not very useful. I have it, but do not use it all that often, for this reason. As my PP skills for anything above basic processing are minimal, it is helpful. IF my skills were better, I probably would not use it at all. It's a several step process to tell it where the facial features are. For making air brushed, slimmed down, portraits, it is fast and relatively easy. If you want that classice, grnarly old man portrait, it will not be much, if any help. It's basically an eye candy machine.

thanks, i'm pretty comfortable hand retouching my images. maybe I'll download a trial and see what it can do, it doesn't hurt to have extra tools when you cant get something to work right.

downloaded a trial. pretty cool software, but something just seems inherently wrong with using the face sculpting. it made some of my portraits look amazing, but... thats not how they look.

how do you guys feel about using this software to change people's faces, even if it's only slightly.

I don't have some of the angst against retouching, that seems so abundant these days. However, I do find I like real people portraits better than I do plastic fantastic images.

I don't have any ethical issues, I just don't care for them.

It creates a plasticized homogenization of a generic ideal feature sets and re plots your pictures to fit them.

I can see getting rid of zits and under eye bags, but presenting your sitter with an image of how they would look after plastic surgery is creepy, and a debasement of the beauty that is there in even the plainest of faces.

I definitely agree, but there are some really useful applications for it as well. I saw a workshop by Lindsay Adler on CreativeLive that actually had some pretty nice applications for the program when used in moderation. Probably still not enough for me to actually purchase the program, but I think there are definitely some useful features.

Here, have a fresh one, since I'm not sure that old one works.

Never posted it here, because I stupidly spent the full ticket. :) Oh well.
