yeah i could see that, if i did this for a living I'd definitely be on board, but as a hobby, i think i enjoy post process almost as much as the photography itself. that looks like it take away the fun.

I bought this back in 2008, when I took on a glamour shoot of someone sight unseen. It turned into the job from hell. She wanted stuff done that at the time, I just wasn't capable of doing in PS. This saved my butt. Here's one of the shots from that...

I got mine using nova's coupon code.

Here is the coupon code they gave me: Coupon: YHJH-RLGS-HLKZ-MQJF

ETA: I had always hesitated to buy this software, as the ads tend to show greatly overworked images as the "after". First quick test is pretty impressive, though. The first pass "default" slider application is pretty moderate, and a pretty decent time-saving starting point.

Be warned, though, this version does not work with RAW files at all. You get a nice warning that you need to upgrade if you want to work with RAW images.

You can do anything in PS that this program does, HOWEVER it might take 6 days (unless unlike me) you are a PS Expert! Plus ONE wedding just ONE wedding and you will be down on your knees saying Thank you to the PP gods! (espically if the bride just ain't the shinnyest)

Quick update: the version listed earlier is a JPEG/TIFF only version. To get the version that will also work with RAW files, you would use this link: //www.portraitprofessional.com/buy/studio/ and it starts at $59.95 before the 15% discount using DHLS-TEOL-QEQP-AFRR, it comes down to $50.95 total.

This version handles RAW files, and also works directly as an available plug-in for Aperture, Lightroom, PS. This version is better suited to my workflow and usage, and extra twenty bucks seems worth it to me.

I have been meaning to buy this for ages so I did just now..

If anyone wants the 15% off as well as the discount please use this code EMNA-TYJC-CBRB-MRKN

I think it is very good software, so easy yet effective when not OVERdone, like all filters really..

I've looked into this numerous times. I haven't done a lot of Portraits in the past, but have started to recently, it's a great tool not overdone playing with the free download version.

I went ahead and got the Studio Version for a CS Plug-In

Here is my Coupon Code if anyone wants to keep the trend going.
Coupon: IBMS-MYIC-FGJC-RTPJ

MAK I used your code.

Ok, so I guess I can bump this thread and pimp my work all in one keyboard click! This edit was quick and easy as far as using the Portrait Professional went. I also had to work a lot on the sunglasses (to remove the reflection of an old and ugly photographer, relatively speaking of course), and other minor tweaks. Also since I just recently reupped for a full dpc membership, it's nice to be able to post a photo from my portfolio instead of having to go through flickr!

So When I did some photo's for her the other day I made her look the way my eye sees her.. She looked and said YES that is me!
Before:

And after PP (as she actually looks in my minds eye)

Ok, how can I refuse a semi viral movement like this?
I got the studio version and used mlary's code.
Here is my code: CGBY-ABUQ-JPQJ-IUOS

as far as DPC goes, is this only legal for expert editing??
06/30/2011 10:09:48 AM · #41
One "rule" people should know here...the discount code gets the poster a free upgrade to the next version. Only one person needs to use a discount code, then it should be removed from the pool. So if you used someone's code to upgrade, let them know, and maybe they can mark theirs as used, so someone else gets a upgrade. For the buyer, it doesn't matter which code you use, you still get the discount.

Now, for status. I've had a chance to use the software on a second image...one of my daughter, and I have to say I'm surprised how much I like it. I mainly picked this image because I was curious how it would do with an image where the user was facing a bit sideways. I have to say I never thought I would buy this software, because I can easily do a controlled amount of skin softening in PS, and I thought that's what it was all about. But PP does much more than that and does it very well. I'm particularly impressed by the way it changes facial shapes--if you let it--to make them more appealing. I'm not sure everyone would want their face changed (and you can try it without), but I think it's still a subtle change (unless you look at before and after), and if the person thinks they look better, and others do, then it's great.

Before:

Default settings, young woman

Same as above, with facial remolding disabled

BTW - These pics were just for playing...I took this a few years ago before I had my strobist setup and backdrops, settings using a halogen light and a cloth BG. I am not fond of the vignette, but I didn't bother to go back to the original raw when I was playing with the software.

And since I can't tell if anyone used my coupon code yet, here's a bump to the top: Coupon: HCNK-FXUY-UYPI-DITN

I was wondering about that too, how do we know? Is it jsut a case of waiting until they release a new version and then trying to upgrade?

Here's one of my daughter that my wife snapped a few years ago, I'd tried to clean it up by hand in PS but failed, using PP make it very easy indeed.

The automatic edits to clean up the skin, brightening of eyes, etc. are all ok for Advanced or Expert (not Basic or Minimal) Editing.

The only issue I see is the facial shape (and neck) adjustments.

I'd have to discuss with the other SC members, but I know scalvert and I have discussed the legality of using a subtle amount of liquify to improve portraits, and he felt it was ok (for advanced). I'm ok with it as well, if subtle. That's probably less than the defaults for the example of my daughter (second image), but the first example I posted (on 6/27) might be ok.

But it's going to be subjective, and I recommend you get a SC opinion by submitting it in a ticket (with the before and after mods shown in reduced samples) if you think it significantly changes the picture. And since it will require a number of us chiming in, you should do that at least 3 days before the deadline.

can't remember whose coupon code I used, maybe it was Mak but I don't think the coupon codes are single use only but here's mine.

Does someone feel like making a list of codes we can keep runnning from below, then cross them off as they are used? That would be very helpful here.

(At least while the promotion is going! I admit the inexpensive price from the sale was the kicker for me...the 15% coupon was just a little bonus, and the free upgrade for using someone's code an extra kicker!)

I've seen the ads for this software in trade rags for over a year now and have always been reluctant to try it, but for $34 I figured what the heck. Just purchased it and gave it a try - VERY nice, fast and simple to use - I'm truly impressed.

Here's my discount code:

macpapas code used.

Mine:
NUSJ-JIZG-IJIZ-TMXV

I found out real quick it doesn't support my RAW files in this version. Lovely.

Purchased Studio version... ended up being $50.95. Great price.

I used Ken's code.

Here's my coupon code:

SGMB-BWWN-DUSH-TZOC

ETA: Code used. It's still useable, but please use an unused code and give them the future upgrade!
