I'm thinking about buying a couple of flashes, a main one and a slave off camera.

I read about these cheap Yongnuo.

I'm not sure I understood the difference between them.

Anyone could help me?

Ciao

I have a handful of the lower end YN-462's. They work great sofar. One thing I like about them is they do NOT have any sort of sleep or auto-off mode like my 430ex does. If I'm fiddling with details for 5 minutes, they stay on until I turn them off.

Here's a features chart I found a while back. Someone in the Yongnou user group on Flickr put it together. I knew it would come in handy now and then.

Thank you so much.

I thought of buying a 468 and a 460II, but it seems that 468 doesn't exist for Nikon yet... :(

Perhaps I have to wait a few weeks.

The 460II is a great buy for what it is. A dumb (non-TTL) flash with a fixed width beam.

Essentially they are like less powerful studio lights - best suited for off camera use with or without a light modifier. You just set it up - set the power, attach it to a wireless trigger and you're good to go. If you are looking for an on camera flash, they probably arent the best choice.

I have 2 of them for about a year. They are very reliable. I even had them outside on stands in a blizzard (in freezer bags) while I shot birds through my back door window blind. Because they are so cheap, even if one crapped out - they are affordable to just replace.

The new ones come with metal feet - so ask before you order.

If you want the best prices, buy them from HKYongnou on Ebay, this is the manufacturers storefront. There are a lot of other sellers on Ebay though. I ordered a spare receiver from one of the others, to test them, and they sent me a different make and model of receiver that was incompatible. Eventually I got the right one from them but it meant an extended wait.

I am preferring lately to buy from Simple Studio Lighting, which is a storefront for Todd's Travel Photos on Amazon. The items are stocked at Amazon warehouses so you get them quickly and you can get free shipping under their supersaver and Amazon Prime programs. The prices are a little more than what you would pay for the item direct from China, but it's worth it to me for the convenience and lack of frustration. In fact, I just got another RF-602 receiver today, having ordered it Monday.

The 468 is a E-TTL flash, while the 460 is a manual only (non-ttl) flash. I've got both, and they're really great for what they are. Simple cheap strobist flashes. They don't have a lot of features, but they do the trick!
