My computer crashed a few weeks ago because of not so clean uninstall of an antivirus software. After a few days of turning on and off some services I gave up and formatted my disk. But I forgot that my Windows OEM cd was in storage in Iceland and I\'ve moved to Norway with the key to the storage. As it was to much trouble get it sent I decided to try out linux and can say I won\'t go back.
Ok finally the question I wanted to ask was what software are you using or would recommend?
I\'m using GIMP which is great but only 8bit and Photivo for my raws which is a little chaotic and not very user friendly.
Heard good things about CinePaint and Bibble pro, is anyone using them?
And finally does anyone know if there\'s any monitor calibrator that works with linux?

I put a copy of Linux on a laptop after I got tired of fooling with Vista. I forget the version...one of those crazy names. I use it with Gimp if I have to !

For raws, I'm using ufraw on Fedora. It plugs into The GIMP nicely.

As for the particular Linux flavor, I recommend Ubuntu. Lots of support out there. I have it on a VM on my MacBook.

Not sure on the monitor calibration, but the Ubuntu forums could let you know.
