Well by now you may know that my image: has gotten a DQ. Too bad...the score was just getting respectable. I'm not going to gripe about the DQ because these expert things are hard to grasp...well for some of us anyway.

I'd like to take a minute to thank IreneM for letting me use one of her great water drop photos as a "texture" on my "Never seen on DPC" entry.

When I first messaged Irene to ask her permission, she wrote back:

Sure Ken. You're Welcome to use a Few of my Agora. Good luck. Look forward to Seeing the end result.
All the Best.
Irene

Well, I still can't figure out what Agora is, but my guess is that she says it was ok to use her photo!

Well after I entered, she went an looked around and found it. She wrote:

Hi Kenny,
My goodness, I've just checked your image and it's seriously good (and gorgeous). I wish you at least a 6.6+!
All the best,
Irene

6.6 + Wow, that would be sweet....even if 6 of it was due to the water drop !

Well, after I informed her of the DQ, she wrote:

Really sorry to hear that, Kenny. For me it's still the Beautiful image it was before the dq.
All the best,
Irene

Oh well, as you know, I generally don't do a lot of "hand" kissing on this site (you can replace hand with a more appropriate word) but I felt I should let you all know how nice Irene was to this mediocre artist.

I'm feeling kinda bad about that myself, because you asked my feedback and it didn't occur to me that it might be DQ'able for that. Shows you how much of the expert editing I have done.

Meh...The DQ doesn't bother me because the rules are strange. From what I gather, I can use "artwork...picture" that wasn't taken by me if I use it as a texture. I think it was the texture thing that I didn't under stand. The official DQ says, "all photos must have been taken by you".

The expert rule says: YOU MAY: use images that do not meet the source or date requirements as textures in your entry if they function specifically as textures and not to circumvent other rules.

So basically I didn't understand "textures".

Irene is one of several very classy people on this site. It's why I love it here.

Hey...aren't you the "cuff cloner"? Wow...I can't imagine getting a 7+ image DQ'd ! Mine was no where near a 7 !

I don't understand how you can think that's a texture.

Ha...because I applied it as a texture in steps learned from a PS website. I just didn't get it. I also saw a link in another thread saying we could use these textures, some of which are photos. So it wasn't just one thing, it was a combo of both. I was even "unofficially" communicating with Langdon. (I did not send a request for them to look at the shot though)

I think now that texture must mean....a closeup photo of a brick or something along those lines.

some ideas about texture from merriam:

1. A structure of interwoven fibers or other elements.
2. The distinctive physical composition or structure of something, especially with respect to the size, shape, and arrangment of its parts: the texture of sandy soil; the texture of cooked fish.
3. The appearance and feel of a surface: the smooth texture of soap.
4. A rough or grainy surface quality: Brick walls give a room texture.
5. Distinctive or identifying quality or character: "an intensely meditative poet [who] conveys the religious and cultural texture of time spent in a Benedictine monastery" (New York Times).
6. The quality given to a piece of art, literature, or music by the interrelationship of its elements: "The baroque influence in his music is clear here, with the harmonic complexity and texture" (Rachelle Roe).

none of the above applies to a waterdrop nose. ;)

I don't know whether this will help or not ... butterfly picture is overlaid with rock photo from 10% to 60% opacity:

Texture ----------- ------------ Asking for trouble --------- --------- Feature

Now this was helpful, tho it hasn't happened with me as of yet, this is an easy to understand example :)
