So I'm one of those hopefuls looking to set up a website. Its a joint venture by my brother and I. I've been doing a bunch of research and the debate comes up Flash or HTML? The Flash looks great but its also a lot slower to load depending on people's connection. I've heard that some apple products won't support a flash site.

Any thoughts?

What did you use to set up your site? I'm assuming most people on here aren't designers so did you use a company with a package set up and templates? Average cost per month?

I found //www.photobiz.com/ Looked to have some cool features. I guess i'm just getting overwhelmed and burnt out looking at this point.

HELP! (also if you could attach your website link so i can see how it looks)

flash is outdated, and has more problems besides just ipads/phones.

It isn't as accessible for people with disabilities, and search engines aren't able to index it. On top of that, it's a pain to update every time you need to add an image or change the site at all.

HTML/css is where it's at. Look into some of the various CMS (wordpress, drupal, joomla, etc) if you'd like advanced features like commenting/RSS feeds.

edit::

I pay ~$4 a month for unlimited bandwidth/storage/email/sub-domains and some other features that I don't use. I've had pretty good uptime, much better than go-daddy
this is the hosting service I use: //www.justhost.com/

I have my personal site at:
and my photo blog is at: //everydaycreative.james-goss.com **under construction still

As for design and such, I do it myself. If you use a wordpress theme, you can customize them with some basic HTML knowledge

the way to go is javascript if you want any type of interactivity. mine is www.adammathiasphotography.com. No flash, nothing that will eliminate any users that are on any type of smartphone, ipad/pod, etc. Previously, I was all flash, then some flash, since going to no flash, I have seen my website traffic go up by hundreds per month. The redesign and learning curve for working with java was bumpy, but worth the results. Let me know if you have more questions.

Hi Dude. What you have heard is right. Flash is a good one. It looks good. But it also having minor drawbacks like slower access..etc.
While surfing I came across this webdesignersatwork.com/. I guess it will help you.

Good Luck

I am just starting to look for wedding photographers and I have noticed that most use Flash, and while it looks nice, it's ridiculously slower than it needs to be(for cable internet even), cumbersome to navigate and frankly get's on my nerves. My vote for you to use is HTML.

I spend a lot of time on the iPad, which means no flash for me. However, Adobe has ceased development of flash for all mobile devices, so unless something changes, even the other tablets and phones could have issues in the future. I don't really understand the decision. Yes the iPad is the top selling tablet, but tablets of all kinds are outselling PCs. If it gets to where people spend more time on their tablets, and none of the tablets can handle flash, then what is the point of continuing any flash development?
