Help. I just picked up a 35L, but I am considering returning it for a Zeiss Distagon 35. Or maybe the 21mm... I want the sharpest, smoothest bokeh giving wide angle. I am very impressed with the 35L.. however all three copies they had front focus on my T2i (maybe it's my body... it's also hard to tell in the camera shop.. the one I have taken home for sure front focus as shown from testing.) dang that sucker is sharp though... I pretty much have to use it MF 100% of the time though even stopped down.. front focus is horrible.. when targeting infinity, it locks at about 30ft away.
the Zeiss seemed a lot smoother... way less purple fringing, smooth focus ring, seemed sharp (from in store test,) and man that bokeh is buttery smooth. I am leaning heavily toward swapping for the Zeiss. However, the 21mm was really nice as well.

could anyone who has used both/ all three help me out? I shoot mostly landscape and aerial, with some random portrait/wedding/events in between. I MF most of the time anyway, so I don't mind that zeiss is MF/ M-ap.
I would be in on the 21mm for sure, but I have a Tokrappy 11-16mm 2.8 for my wide, I feel like the 21 would overlap almost... as I jump to an 85MM after that.. and I don't have room in my pack for a 50. I have a strong love for the 85... and then it goes to 200L

Thank you

Chris

when you're talking that sort of money, I might think about upgrading your body. The noise reduction may serve you as well as any mild sharpness increase between the lenses.

I bought my Zeiss 25mm for a few hundred (demo lens). I don't think you can top that for the price. Even new, I believe it's cheaper than the 35L and the Zeiss 21mm (two very different lenses). Sharp when you want it to be sharp, and beautiful bokeh wide open.

BTW, if you don't test the lens, it won't front focus. ;)

it's 90% glass, 10% camera for me. I use that money I save on a cheap body for glass. I think I'm going for the zeiss...

If you don't mind manual focus, the Zeiss 21/2.8 is pretty hard to beat in that focal length range. The 35L should compete pretty well with the Zeiss 35, although if you prefer the bokeh of the Zeiss, then it's a no-brainer.
One price you pay for the T2i body is no microadjustment, which would help you with the consistent front focus.

If it's your landscape lens, used at small apertures, who cares? Akin to pixel peeping. However, the newer bodies will allow you improve that as Kirbic metioned.
