It says my 50D does not provide that info.

Apparently Canons are notorious for making life harder :P (joking)

I was surprised to see that my link works for the Canon 1D series up to 1Ds3 too. When I sold my 1Ds3 it has 2700 clicks on it... Awwwww!

However, I can get the info from the EXIF:

File: - L:\Photos_Originals\...\IMG_1190.JPG
Make - Canon
Model - Canon PowerShot S3 IS
Image Number - 1061190

The underlined digits denote the folder numbers created each time the image counter rolls over at 9999 (ten thousand actuations), the bold digits the total image count ...

Yeh sorry, seems there are a few it does not work with but quite a few that it does work on like 1D series and the big Nikons too

Hmm, I'm a little skeptical about the accuracy of this. The file names of current images from my K20D end in numbers around 3300 and I've already been to 9999 and started over. So I'd have expected it to reveal a shutter count of 13,300. But I came back with 7,885. Doesn't seem right.

If you've ever used a card which has been used in another camera without reformatting first, it can reset your image-naming sequence, i.e. "roll over" and restart numbering files before reaching 10,000 exposures the first time.

No, it's not that. Until recently we've only had the one body in the household and I am certain there's been no swapping of cards between cams. Plus I routinely reformat cards as soon as I've downloaded images. I also haven't 'restored settings' in the camera, which I guess might cause it to beging counting over. Oh well.

For the filenames maybe, but the shutter count is stored in Exif and is not necessarily related to the filenames.

I know about this because it happened to me. If you check the sample EXIF I posted earlier -- the total picture count appears to re-set when the filenames do, so they continue to correspond after the re-set. It may well be different for different manufacturers or models.

Post a recent picture with full exif, and I'll check it with PhotoME. If it's in there, that will find it.

RESULTS

Shutter count - 34800

NIKON D40

70% of this model's expected shutter life

So much for selling this camera for anything... Haha!

This is resized, but should have the original EXIF -- it's the same one I tried to submit to the website, and for which I previously posted partial data

Here's the one I uploaded to the website that gave a result of 7,885. Resized only. I'd be interested to see what you come up with..

I hear you.

Nikon D80
Shutter Count - 32274
65% of this model's expected shutter life.

Yikes! I've had this camera for 3 1/2 years. At this rate I've got about 23 months of expected life left. Better start my new camera fund.

Blimey mate, shows how much you must LOVE that D3s.

I believe the results to be bang on. I have had the shutter count of the 645D at the local Pentax dealer and it was exactly the same.

both are 1D Mark IIn
one has 460037
the other has 269871

those numbers seem about right to me.
