You will remember that, back in April, the serendipity challenge was posted. My photo, entitled "Find" //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=70764 depicted a person opening a suitcase from which light emanated. It was not a good picture at all, but in a couple comments I was told that I had stolen the idea from Quentin Tarantino's film, Pulp Fiction. I was slightly put out when the verb "stolen" was used, because I had never seen Pulp Fiction, and indeed, don't know where I had gotten the idea from. It is definitely not my own, as I am nowhere near that creative.

Anyway, I just watched Pulp Fiction yesterday, and you all were right:
I did steal it from Pulp Fiction.

I write to thank you for suggesting a great movie to me. I enjoyed it very very much.

Cheers,
Drew

I haven't seen Pulp Fiction in it's entirety.

A light from a container hardly started with pulp fiction and certainly wont stop there either. It's also a take on the whole pandora's box thing. Nothing wrong with being inspired from things you've seen, or things you've experienced. There is very little true originality left - things have been done somewhere, somehow, by someone at some point in time.

I have really got to see that film. I keep meaning to, but I just never get it done.

Anyway, just remember that unique and original are not synonymous. It is quite possible to have an original idea without that idea being unique. Its non-uniqueness does not detract from its originality.
