As some users noticed this morning, only a single Open Challenge was scheduled. Challenge exclusivity was originally created as an experiment to curb the number of entries a single challenge might receive without actually enforcing a specific entry limit. It was very successful from the time it was initiated up until recently, where it seems no longer necessary to artificially limit the number of entries a weekly challenge might receive while potentially blocking user participation.

Going forward, we will be scheduling 3 regular challenges each week: 1 open challenge every Wednesday and 2 Member challenges (scheduled Monday and Friday). This way, those that have the time to submit to 3 challenges each week won't have to miss out on a subject they might be very interested in due to exclusivity.

Keep in mind that exclusivity isn't necessarily going away entirely though; we will reserve the feature for special circumstances and specific challenges where exclusivity makes sense.

Why is that good news?? So participation has been dropping for some time.... and now to the point of dropping the dual challenges that were once necessary....

It is good news because paid members get 3 challenges a week instead of 2...whilst non-members still only get one. More incentive to pay up and be a full member. Yeah challenge entry numbers have been dropping, but this new layout may encourage a few to come out of the woodwork and join in the member challenges a bit more.

This is really good news for someone like me, who for 3 to 4 weeks has no time to submit, but then gets a few days off and could submit to all three... Definitely an improvement for members any way you look at it.... thanks!!!

Hmmm, maybe I'm dense, but I can't tell the difference now between open and member challenges...

Open challenges are open to everyone (registered users and paying members) and have usually been run under Basic rules. The Member challenges are only open to paying members (for both entering and voting), and have usually been run under the Advanced rules.
