Hi all, I have been meaning to get involved here for a while, so it seems like there is no time like the present :)

My name as you have probably guessed is James, I am a freelance documentary, fine art and portrait photographer and my personal passion is photographing tribal cultures.
I hope to be able to force myself to photograph outside of my comfort zone here by entering the challenges as this seems like a great way to get the creative juices flowing :)

I look forward to chatting with you all,

Cheers,

James.

Hi James
Don't force yourself too hard... or you will go MAD like the rest of us!
There is a welcome hamper going around here - I'm sure someone will send it to you shortly.
Your website has some nice stuff.
Please read the challenge editing rules carefully so you dont get an unfortunate DQ!

Welcome onboard James.

I'm from Horndean myself and was out in your neck of the woods yesterday taking my "Fence" picture.

Unlike you i really don't like doing "people" pictures but like you want to push outside my comfort zone.

Hi James

I'm originally from Sussex so know your neck of the woods quite well, I'm living 'up north' in Cheshire now.

Hope you enjoy yourself here, I'm still quite new but the challenges really help get you out and about taking shots outside of your comfort zone. Have fun!

Welcome to the madness, James. Pull up a chair, your camera and get ready for a wonderful ride. Lots of knowledge here and many that will quickly share! Thick skin, read the editing rules (learn em', live 'em, love 'em), read the voting rules, enter challenges, but most of all...just have fun!! It's a great place and I think you'll like us.
Cheers, Kat

I have some tramping time from Sussex, but at least I never asked to be forgiven. I'm - er - somewhere else now.

Greetings also from Hampshire(ish) James, from James! I like the Tanzania shots on your website, I was out in Kenya last October and should be going out to North East Tanzania again this summer with work, it'd be interesting to hear about your experiences out there!

Also I'm very jealous of your kit, I was on the cusp of getting a D700 a few weeks ago only to be cruelly (and somewhat inexplicably) rejected by the finance company working with Jessops.

Do you get out to the New Forest much? I live right on the Dorset / Hampshire border between the Forest and the Sea (most of the time).

Wow, what a very warm welcome indeed!!

Thanks everyone for making a site noob feel very welcome :)

I didn't realise that there were meets too, I would definitely be interested in meeting others for a bit of photography so I will keep an eye out.

Thanks again :)

Enjoy your time in Kenya, the people are truly amazing! Its one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life and I will be returning to the tribes again later this year with any luck.

I have an exhibition coming up in Hampshire of my work soon, so if I could give you any useful tips, please feel free to come and chat :)

Welcome from me, too - your website has some excellent, and interesting, photographs. oh, and congratulations on gaining your ARPS last year. I have toyed with the idea of trying for my L, but keep putting it off.

Go for it Sara, its great to really put your all into getting that qualification. It forces you to really think about your work and produce a panel that you can be proud of :)
