Which is probably a good thing since 11 of the 13 comments I got were against the frame but I had no idea the Picture Frames in Jasc PaintShop were considered Clip Art. Just a word of warning for other's who also might not know this. Sure hope this is clarified in the new rules.

Here's the shot without the frame which I have added at the last minute. I have a feeling if I had just left it alone I would have had a good shot at another top 10. Oh well, live and learn.

I gotta say... Isn't a frame a frame? Whats the difference between Paint shop pro and Photoshop frames?
07/14/2004 10:19:42 AM · #5
Looks like we both share a first in this round hon... I screwed up and used advanced editing myself. I caught it at about 12:45 and immediately took action to remove the shot. Oh well, and it was doing good too...

That is the copy without the frame, I'm debating if I'll put the other one back up or not but it had a picture frame from Paintshop, made it look like it was sitting in a photo album.

I was wondering what that will look like after you print it out and put it in an album with photo corners ... :)

There are many methods of producing frames using just the image content. For example:
select an area of the image that you wish to be the frame area, apply a radial blur, invert the selection and apply a drop shadow.
Makes a nice frame that has a satiny appearance and appears to reflect the image.

You can select the perimeter area using SelectAll, then use the Border command. Not sure that would cover ElGordo's example though ...

This got DQ'd saying I put my own art on it.. That's a load of CRAP. I never touched this photo other than cropping it. It is a decal on our car. The blue is OUR CAR...the black is the tinted windows. I got DQ'd for something that was ASSUMED!!!!!!! NOT ASKED!!!
ASK PEOPLE IF YOU WONDER IF IT'S FAKE!!!!!!!!!
BESIDES...I don't have the computer or p hotoshop talent to produce something like this. If I did..I probably wouldn't be taking pictures.

Um... I assume you got an e-mail notification to submit the original? I've had to show proof a couple of times, but so far haven't been DQ'd. Thus, I was asked.

BTW, your photo of someone else's ad wasn't what the challenge was about -- it was about creating your OWN ad. I attempted (sort of) and did dismally -- placing below many photos I thought fell much shorter in the challenge category (I mean a photo of three flowers is somehow an ad?) than I would have expected. My fault though for "cheating" in that I posted a photo that more or less fit the challenge but was really just an outtake from the Purple challenge (same time period) -- which didn't do well either.... ah, try try again.

I'd say this is the clearest case I've ever seen about using Other People's Art. There is a rule: "Literal photographic representations of the entirety of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions, however creative depictions or interpretations are permissible. This includes, but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and computer artwork." I don't think you have followed this rule.

This probably got DQd because it is a literal interpretation of a work of art. If you had shown more than just the sticker, for instance on a guitar case or bumper, placing it some sort of context, it probably would not have been DQd.

I had my very first two entries DQd because the time/date stamp wasn't set correctly on my camera. I've been there.

Artwork. Literal photographic representations of the entirety of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions, however creative depictions or interpretations are permissible. This includes, but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and computer artwork.

Oops...sorry, someone beat me to the explanation.

I still like the frame, even if it was heavy
07/14/2004 12:02:45 PM · #19
Hate to say it Deannda, but I would have also commented on the frame. I don't care too much for fancy frames. I think they (like this example IMHO) detract or distract from the shot itself...

I looked at this last night and I thought, OMG what a great photo this would be without that hideous frame :) I hope you sell lots of prints!

Cheers

Crystal -- I responded to your concerns on the cross post you did in the "Too many DQs" thread. If you haven't already, please take a look at that response, and for clarity: You were DQ'd because you took a photo of a literal representation of someone else's artwork without adding any creative elements of your own.
