Yesterday was a beautiful day. I grabbed my camera and drove up the Ohio River on the Kentucky side to the quaint little town of Augusta. I intended to take the ferry across the river and drive back to Cincinnati on the Ohio side of the river, but the ferry landing was underwater. Here are a couple of Lensbaby shots from Augusta:

I'm not really happy with either of these images. I much prefer this one that I took in early April:

I'd be pleased to have your comments on these.

It is a lot easier to control the Composer than my old Lensbaby II, although the Lensbaby II was "funkier".

Well, I can't really pass up an opportunity to be in a side challenge with Lisa. I've gotta post a couple from last month to get me warmed up, but hopefully I'll be able to get some new shots in this week.

I wanted to try a Lensbaby at the lowest cost so I got a Muse with the plastic optic. I'm slowly getting the hang of focusing by pushing in and out on the flexible tube but I don't always succeed in getting the focus where I want it. I think I'd like the Control Freak better--but I'm also interested in getting the fisheye optic and that doesn't work well with the Control Freak.

I assume you are using the Double Glass optic. With my plastic optic, I can't get the sweet spot to be nearly as sharp as yours.

Not sure about that. I got some pretty sharp pictures with my old plastic Lensbaby II, in some ways I found that one easier to use than the Composer. But the Composer is easier to control, in the sense that you can lock in stuff, rather than having to push/pull all the time.

I love the unpredictability of the Lensbaby 2.0, although today I found it bloody impossible to hold the silver reflector, talk to the model and tilt&push&pull my lens at the same time :) Photos coming soon!

I'll be posting soon, playing with the lensbaby will give me a reason to shoot again.

YEAH!!!!

Same here - It's like starting from scratch for me.

I love how manual my Lensbaby is - I actually have to BE in the moment with my camera and lens - I have to think about timing, speed, composition - I like it.

Hopefully it will get me (and some of you) back in the 'frame' (pardon the pun) again!

Happy to see you all here!

Yeah, that's what I love about that contraption to, unpredictable, fun, and makes people give you really weird looks :)

I've got the Composer and a bunch of the optics, but I keep coming back to my old 2.0 -- I get such weird results from it! I'm thinking of getting the Muse which seems to be the 2.0 but you can switch optics.

Paul and Michelle both suggested cropping my "Girl in Arboretum" image:

Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_948856.jpg

Actually, I had cropped it quite a bit. Here is the original uncropped version:

Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_949658.jpg

I left enough of the trees on the right to give the girl more space to move and to avoid a static composition. I've now cropped it more:

Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_949659.jpg

I've decided that I like this version better. Thanks, Paul and Michelle.

Yeah, the Muse is the 2.0 and you can change optics. I've been drooling over the fish eye optic for quite some time now.

My first, not only for this side challenge but my first shot in a very long time.
