Greetings, DPC -

Is shipping to a hotel a viable and safe option? Is there any better way to do it?

I'm an Australian, visiting Chicago for a short stay, in a week's time, staying at hotel in the city center, for a work convention. I'd love to take advantage of our strong Aus dollar, and the lower USA prices, and do some shopping while there......lastolite softbox, macbook pro, new micro four thirds camera,.........etc etc......the sky's the limit!

If I buy things online from BH Photo, and from other retailers, would they ship to a hotel? Is this safe? Is it doable?

Any other thoughts, about how I can order items now, and have them delivered to me, during my short stay in Chicago?

Thanks,

Your instincts are good. I applaud your motivation to take advantage of arbitrage opportunities. That said, BHPhotoVideo shipping help page says, "We do not ship to hotels, motels, resorts, PMB, FedEx or UPS locations."

Know anyone in the states whom you trust?

Personally.... I would locate a good dealer in Chicago and just pay the sales tax so you can get it in your hot little hands.

I doubt most will ship to a hotel and as to whether it's safe.... well.... I doubt you will find a seller wanting to do that anyway....

There's a Calumet in Chicago. Maybe this helps.

Thank you, each of you above. That's very helpful.
Yes, I guess the best thing is to just find a local dealer, and buy in the old fashioned way. Pity though....I do love the whole online BH Photo experience. Oh well........just have to find a convention in New York next time!

Calumet in Chicago is a really great store, however, it's tucked away and is probably not that easy to get to or even find unless you have some transport.

An alternative is Central Camera on Wabash (parallel to Michigan Avenue). It's at 230 South Wabash Ave.. Pricing will surely not be as good as B&H, but they are very helpful and knowledgable. I have bought several things from them in the past.
