I really liked the first image, so I tried to see what the limits of the original were. It got kind of noisy. I'm not sure it would print well.
Edit: updated the image with one I liked better...

Generally made it a little more contrasty, sharpened, silver efex pro 2 on custom settings with heavy vignette and edge burning. Re size and sharpened again. |

Hmmm, it's "Week three".
Are we going to have another image to play with?
This is way too much fun.
LOL - I just found the 'new' image. "Wake up, Alice."

So here's an edit of this fun image:
Cut out background and apply Simplify > cartoon (with many adjustments)
Duplicate background layer and apply Blending Mode : darken
Add back original layer and merge
Duplicate layer and add Gaussian blur of around 50 or so.
Apply blending mode Multiply
Flatten
There were so many good edits of this very fine image that it was hard to decide which one to select.
Maybe I’ll post some others later on…
Not only is the model photogenic, but background is wonderful to work with. |

I enjoyed this image. There were so many ways I wanted to edit this :) Here's 1 colour, 1 B & W. Both heavily relying on Silver Efex Pro.
ETA
OK now a third. I'm enjoying this image.

I am loving seeing all of the different takes on this image. Well done. I will go through and comment on them at a later time. |

Hope you dont mind me joining.
Looks like fun so I thought I wold give it a bash too...
I'm enjoying my editing lately so I thought I would turn our smooth model into a bit of a rough character .
Editing process in notes on each image.

Pretty straight ahead edit. I was trying to keep the edgy David Bowie look while not losing any detail on the side of the face. Ignore the fact that the shirt is blue. |

I am looking for some assistance here. I entered the following image in the recent Fences challenge, and to be honest with you , I am not happy with my final edit at all. My opinion is that the image is a bit too 'heavy' in look rather than what I was after. I was complaining to myself about the edit in the scores thread about how it is not what I wanted. I am looking for some creative takes on the shot.
I have posted three separate files in my workshop area as high res jpegs (the original exposure, a light room adjusted exposure, and one that was adjusted about 2 stops. If someone would rather have a version of the RAW file, send me a PM with your email and I will try and figure out how to send it. As you can see from the original exposure, the light was not ideal but I was looking to include the cool sky and the decaying fence, so I was obligated to shoot into the light.
Original exposure
LR Adjusted
+2 stops
Thanks in advance!

I thought your edit was well done and you finished with a pretty nice score. I did a edit but I don't really think it is better then what you did, I do like the cool tones of the color version so while I enjoy black and white I kept this edit in color. Not sure if it is what you wanted as it is still pretty heavy on the processing.

Isnt it time for the next photo already?
Come on guys dont let this die!
Ok a reasonably quick edit of the Fence shot.
Manual blend of 2 exposures after taking it through Camera RAW (one sky and one other) blended using luminosity masks. Selectively masked out High pass filter to give clouds pop. Selectively de-noised the windows. Used Tony Kuyper's Triple Play to give it some clarity to the detail. prperold's sharpening action down to 800 pix - found on www.outdoorphoto.co.za |

Thanks Stephen and Joshua for the edits on my shot - clearly you went another way and that is what I was hoping for. Some more things to try. |

So, after my post early I have gotten some great feedback, and it was suggested I put my fences one in here to see how I could have improved my image. I have to admit I was afraid to darken it more then what it was, however I keep getting the comments the images seem flat.
Here is what I entered:
Here is the link to the 3 images before HDR
Image 1 - JPG or NEF
Image 2 - JPG or NEF
Image 3 - JPG or NEF
Thank you in advance! :)

I live dark and moody skies! Seemed to work well here like the sun was shining from behind the photog and onto the fence so the fence was lighter.
Similar editing steps to the Bassbone edit I did a few posts earlier. |
