I think it's just me, but I've been trying to download the picture and I only get a white box... Can anybody tell me, what I'm doing wrong? pleeeeeeease!

Click on the image, then click on "view full-size image", then right click that new image and do a save-as.

Just change the layer mode on the SEP2 layer to "luminosity" and fade to suit. All color info will remain intact. Want to partially desaturate? Dupe the SEP2 layer, set one to luminosity and the other to color, and fade each to suit.

I am still unclear - does it mean that CS5 puts SEP2 output as a layer? What settings do you use in SEP2? (I have still limited knowledge of CS5 and SEP2)

Yes, SEP2 outputs as a new, separate layer. As far as the settings go, those will vary with every image, of course; the point is, you can process with incredible control over luminance, contrast, structure, etc in SEP2 then, by setting the new layer in luminosity mode, you keep the color in the image but have these rich, intricate tonal values.

My PP is the lightest. Since my monitor is calibrated with Spyder I assume my eyes could be the problem. Anyone see it much too light??

Here is mine. Done in Photoshop using layers, masks, blending modes, selective high pass sharpening and some dodge and burn.

A lot of noise and artifacts in the image. I did some smoothing, but didn't fret over a lot of it. :)

Here is my first version, I have two more to come shortly. I used varying degrees of SEP 2 as an overlay. This is the color version.

This is my SEP2 version, same editing steps as below but I didn't use it as an overlay.

Last try, this is my favorite version, although I realize selective desat isn't for everyone. I kind of like it.

May I join late?? Sorry but I edited the photo anyway!! So I guess you really can't say no.

I'm a PSE newb... I need the practice because I don't know what I am doing.

Man... Spiffer, sjhuls and DCNutter, you really got the focal point on the wheelbarrow. Nicely done!

Another version. Sky is a problem though. I can also see that luminance would help. I am learning a lot. Good challenge.

I love theese kind of threads you can learn a lot from them, well I wanted to have a go at the photo
but it seems I cant save the original photo, maybe the site changed so you cant steal photos anymore or what?
when I click save photo as it only gives me a 1 pixel size gif, and I tried other browsers
whats up with that?

The main display page does have a transparent gif overlay to deter casual theft, but if you click "view full size image" you will get a full res copy, suitable for editing.

here is my take on it,
I used curves for dodging and burning then sep to make into b/w

edit forgot I used lens correction which I think is a very important tool to get the lines a bit more straight

I took a quick stab at it.

I started with Lucis Whyeth for sharpening, then noise reduction, then multiply a copy of the layer for contrast (down to about 20% opacity). Then I used Topaz denoise because of the noise problem I created not being careful...then I didn't like all the foreground detail so I used Topaz simplify to reduce the rock detail.

(I'm cheating, because I didn't sign up. :)

moved the wheelbarrow (poorly, I might add :), increased the canvas size, yellowed preset in SEP2, played with the perspective -- it's not quite right, but you get the idea. :D
