It looks like this challenge is on it's way to being the largest number of submissions ever :) I'm looking forward to seeing all these photos tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing some great submissions this week
:)

It's really going to be interesting seeing the wide range of topics that people chose to photograph. I wonder how much people's personal prefernces are going to come into play in their voting. I'm also wondering how many pets and kids are going to be featured. Not that that is a bad thing ;)

I hope that free study sparks some extra imagination. I hope that the photographs are of subjects that people normally enjoy photographing, whether it be kids, pets, flowers, or whatever... I like this challenge because it allows just that. Photograph whatever you like but do it well :)

Looks like this week's challenge is gonna reach a record # of votes, too. Unfortunately, the extra voters weren't the ones I've been looking for. Y'know, the ones that like my stuff!

"Fear" was a toughie. I think so more now that I've voted on everything. There were far fewer really good photos this time around.

Have just finished voting and found the 'fear' challenge quite difficult to judge - some really good pics but totally depended on their title to suggest fear. Didn't see any 10's this time around. Hoping that the present 'Free study' challenge will be full of interesting subjects that people enjoy shooting best.

Funny about this challenge. I set out to reproduce some of my old favourites and took one or two extra photos while I was about it. The one I ended up entering is very different from what I usually take.

My entry is very different from my usual photos. I have quite a few that I rejected not because I wasn't pleased with them, but because I wanted to submit something that that was different for me.

I have been watching and voting on the photos that I have liked for the past month. I am very new to the photography hobby/habit, so I figured the only way that I was going to get better was to get input on my shots. This category seemed like a good one to jump in with. All the feedback I get will be greatly appreciated.

I pretty much did the same thing. I love taking photos of old barns and whatever but this week I entered something unlike my normal photos. It was fun and I really feel good about this week. This is the second time I can say I really love my photo and feel good about it. That to me is what's important. This was a fun week !

btw...I owe you lunch:)

It sounds like a lot of people really had a good time with this. I have to say I am excited about the outcome...(Just 2 hours, 12 minutes and 25 seconds left before I can view the other submissions, but who's counting?) ;0)
I am very pleased with my photograph, and have decided that I will frame it regardless of the outcome here.

Definately neck and neck with the B&W challenge, John, and still 1hr and 40 minutes left!

I think there will be a dramatic difference between the quality of photos submitted for the Fear challenge, and the photos in the Open Challenge. I agree with Vin, I could not bring myself to hand out any 10's in Fear. Some nice shots, but none of them really did a lot for me. I suspect this open shallenge is going to bring out not only the most participants, but the best that we have to offer. Looking forward to it...

I'm pretty happy with my Free Study submission. I already have framed a similar photo that I like a bit better though, but unfortunately it was taken a couple weeks ago. ;)

I didn't submit to the fear challenge... I just couldn't come up with anything I'd be happy with.

I think with the voting this week I'll start commenting on at least some of the photos. I really haven't done that before.

I was so close to getting my submission in for Free Study that it showed up on the Textures Challenge! @&*^%!$#!!!!
07/15/2002 12:12:38 AM · #15
OH NOOOO! I was wondering who that was! Rats!

I went to take some last-minute sunset photos to see if I could get something better than my current submission. Of course I did (I think), but what with missing a couple of stoplights (and almost getting rammed by a pickup on my side of the double-line) I got home at 8:55 PDT -- just a little too late to risk unsubmitting and re-submitting...so here''s my outtakes.

My "Outtake" is linked in my signature below, and is called "Beach Fun".
Comments?

Great submissions this week! Nice work everyone. It will be difficult but fun to vote!

Good luck!

Karen,

Good job on the much-needed, new ad-free portfolio :) 'Beach Fun' is amazing... I can't wait to see which submission this week is yours if it's better than that.

Thanks, Drew! I have been monitoring my preliminary vote, and was just getting all excited, then BLAM! Lost nearly a whole point with only 2 additional voters! Ouch!
;)

Voted and COMMENTED!! on around 50 images so far. Seen a few really nice shots so far, and still have 120+ images left to vote on.

I'm fairly happy with my score so far... after 6 votes it was actually up near 7.8!! but now with 15 votes it's down to around 6.9... I dont expect I'll get a good idea on my final score until I have around 50 votes. Still, it's better than the 5.5 and 5.1 I got on my first 2 submissions :)

Thanks...the sunsets made me too late to use them though...I guess I can re-crop them at hi-res for prints, though. I only got half the goats in the frame because I had just pulled off to the side of the road and shot it through the window.
