Good pick! That was a very unusual, original film in a era of mainstream contrivia and the music was superb. :)

Last Emperor (but I'm biased, working with the guy who wrote it)

Lawrence of Arabia

And Thomas Newman is the guy who wrote the soundtracks for both American Beauty and Erin Brokovich

I don't really care for most music in movies, but the soundtrack in Spirited Away was awesome.

The sheltering sky (film B. Bertolucci , music Ryuichi Sakamoto )

The big blue (film Luc Besson , music Eric Serra )

Out of Africa ( Sidney Pollack , John Barry )

Yes , I confess that I'm romantic !

The theme song to Beverly Hills Cop is by far the best theme song ever made in history.

Absolutely, positively without a doubt best soundtrack ever: Amelie.

Another good one is trainspotting, but not nearly as much as Amelie.

Oh yes indeed. Great choices - as is Lawrence of Arabia.

Betty Blue was good too - another Sakamoto (with David Sylvian - Forbidden Colours): 'Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence'.

Good selections so far...

Crossroads; great blues sound track
but to get the guitar finale you have to get Steve Vai:The
Elusive Light and Sound Vol.1
La Bamba;Carlos Santana rifts all the way through it.
Angel Heart:just love the haunting sound track

Thomas Newman's music walks on air. Profound and has a light atmospheric depth to it. Example's: Meet Joe Black, American Beauty, Scent Of A Woman, The Shawshank Redemption and Road to Perdition.

City of Angels

I don't know it's name, but the song they play during the taxi chase scene in the Fifth Element.

The Imperial March and the snow speder battle scene form Star Wars.

I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan, but I have to reiterate Top Gun, also Cocktail.

What about the Disney movies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Lion King (Even older, my mind just started singing R.E.S.C.U.E. Rescue Aid Society...).

Or how could you forget something like "White Christmas"

Some good choices so far...
How about Bernard Herrmann's scores for Hitchcock films like North by northwest or Psycho + lots of others.
Also Lalo Schifrin for Mission: Impossible, Bullit, Dirty Harry, Eagle has Landed etc etc

I got to add a few to the list....

Oklahoma
Gone With the Wind
Pretty Woman...what a Cinderella story of the 90s
Whoever said Dirty Dancing...that was good, also had a good soundtrack.
