Some photo's of my home aquarium, hope you like!
The only one that has been modified is the mushroom coral, with slight colour change because it was too dark. Everything else is uncropped and unmodified.

Impressive, especially as they are unmodified.

now those are CUTE. i haven't gotten my tank set up again since I moved. love the shot of the pseudo-chromis. I'm curious what settings you used on the d70 for those shots, and what lense. i'd love to do the same when i get my reef set up again :)

I used the infamous Sigma 105mm F/2.8 lens for these shots. It's a great lens. Most of them are ISO 250. I need an external flash like SB-600 or SB-800 to really improve them, because lack of light is the biggest hurdle with my aquarium.

I once saw an article specifically on shooting/illuminating fish in an aquarium. The main technique was to slightly immerse (just barely) the flash (in a clear plastic bag or something) in the top of the tank for illumination. The sample shots with the article were really great--so it looks like it works. But I've never tried it, myself.

I'm guessing you'd get a more natural light (diffused/broken by waves) if you didn't immerse the flash, but had it several inches above the water. Either way you do it, it probably would be important to have the flash unit as close to the front of the tank (or closest to the side you're shooting from) as possible--and maybe use a lens hood--to eliminate glare from the flash.

dhare....

Here are a couple from the aquarium in Chicago. Nikkor 24-85 f2.8-4 [f/5.6], [ISO 400], no flash, mono-pod.

Thanks glad you like 'em!
Yep, this is my home aquarium. 200 litres (50 gal). This shot also came from here:

Nice shots too flash. My aquarium is a bit dimmer than most reef type aquariums, because I have 3 flourescent lights rather than the more common metal halide (which is much brighter).

What nice pictures! The purple and yellow fish is really colorful and unusual - it's so strange that nature chooses colors so well. Purple and yellow are just across from each other on the color wheel.

Fish are so pretty to look at - wish I enjoyed taking care of them as much as I like looking at them. My son had an aquarium when he was a teenager and it was such a pain to keep up.

Hey Dan, glad to see its a clown fish now, that sky pic had me freaked, wondered how you got it from your tank lol.

Great pics. I'm a tropical guy myself and keep this guy in my Juwel Rio 180ltr I also have a Juwel Vision 180 as my community tank plus several smaller hospital/breeding tanks. Hope its ok to say here? I'm admin on a tropical fish forum (corydorasworld) and would welcome Marine keepers too (we need a Marine section), if you drop by I go by AquariCam there.
