Not that I think I ever will place... but ...When I am done taking my shots on my camera I download them to my computer and then I upload to DPC. Does my uploaded file have all the information to make it valid? Can I format my camera card?

not unless you upload your picture without editing at all. Once you use a program like Photoshop or something like that, you lose the EXIF info. BTW, NEVER save an edited imag over the original, always choose "save as" and give it a different name.

I keep a folder on my desktop named "DPC Originals" and save a copy of the original to it before I do anything...it has helped me to avoid any horrible errors so far (not that it won't in the future...knock wood!). :o)

edit: typo

You'll actually want to save your original even if you don't edit or resize. We don't have a way to view the EXIF from your submission, only from your uploaded proof.
