It's kind of lost track of my original questions, but I'm perfectly okay with that. I've got a pretty good idea of what to get him from bits and pieces of this thread, and I'm still learning a lot about other stuff I never would have thought to ask. Now if only I weren't at work 13 hours a day so I had some time to read it all...

I love my Le Creuset dutch ovens, i have several. But i like the looks of the Staub dutch oven. I also have a couple of uncoated cast iron dutch ovens, and several skillets. You can't go wrong with it, for sure.
