When I was in the Air Force and stationed in England, I belonged to an MS-DOS user group on base. When a umber of us rotated back to the states, we decided to keep in touch once a week in a chat room on AOL. We called it "The Yo room", and everyone had a Yo name. Yo Hec, Yo Terry, Yo Doc, and Yo Rich were the others. I always liked the Spaceman Spiff character from the Calvin & Hobbes comic, so I chose Yo Spiff. It's unique enough to always be available on any online forum I join, with only minor variations depending on the username rules for the site.

I was born in Germany and my then-boyfriend (now husband of *gulp* 24 years) decided to call me Beetle, because just like the VW, I was a "cute CURVY thing, made in Germany".

The nickname stuck very firmly in real life, and makes a good online name, too.

Mine is completely made up. No story behind it.
Maybe I will change it someday, since I truly have no connection to it.

We should start a thread of all the Polacks on the site. We can tell jokes about ourselves. :p

My motion graphic instructor took a few years off and made a film about the origin of the Polack joke. Trailer: //vimeo.com/16476350

Anyways, on the thread topic, it's my RL name.

EDIT::
More information, since it seems to have been interpreted negatively.

Horrible depiction of Poland and Polish people. Very sad that your friend took such a one-sided heavy-handed approach. It only compares with a program I saw on Australian TV about 2nd generation Polish Jew whose hatred of Polish people instilled by his parents made him believe that Polish people were to blame for holocaust. Amazing how racial stereotypes transcend common sense and logic.

>>> That's it from me on this subject. <<<

It's just my first name. Amazingly enough, it was available and this is probably the only online identity where I use only the first name, which is cool. Everywhere else it's a combination with the last name, underscores, etc.
spiritualspatula once asked how it's pronounced so I sent him a voice recording. :)

Mine is nearly as interesting as some here... It's my name Niall O'Tuama. Or at least it is my name in the Irish language. Note my first name is pronounced 'Neil' and in english my last would be Twomey.

The meaning of my username?

I means that I didn't pay attention when I signed up for DPC. That I didn't realize that I would be forever known by that name -- otherwise I would have picked something much more interesting!

The meaning behind the boring name:

We moved to Virginia 7 years ago, because of my husband's work. He got a job as a physics professor. Both of our families are in Minnesota. One of the first things I did was setup an email account to keep in touch with family. vawendy was a celebration of the move and something that would be obvious to my family that it was me.

Really didn't want it for a username here. Thought of changing it many times, but couldn't come up with any good ideas -- suggestions welcome!
