Howdy DPCers,

If you don't know anything about DPL but are interested in learning more, click "League" on the main navigation bar at the top of the page. Basically, DPL allows DPCers to form teams that are then pitted against each other in challenges; the scores of the members determine the team's score in each round and ultimately determine the winner.

--

Now I know that there are some of you who don't like DPL. Some of you hate it so much that you don't even want to be within fifty feet of DPC while League is running. Although I do believe there are good answers to your concerns about scoring bias during League, that's a subject for a different thread. This thread is for those, like me, that thought that DPL was great: for me, it reinvigorated my interest in a hobby I love, helped me grow as a photographer, and gave me the pleasure of working closely with many people who I greatly respect.

What I want to do with this thread is two things:*

1) Get a list of people interested in participating. Just post on this thread if you are! I'll update regularly with a list of all parties interested at the bottom of this message.

2) Find out what is known about official plans re: DPL including timetables and implementation.

* If this project has already been undertaken elsewhere, I apologize for the duplication. I know there's the thread that's been running since the end of the last DPL--I just wanted to start with a fresh focus.

I'd help my team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again! :)

I really enjoyed it. That's mostly down to having a great team and the fun and sense of comradeship the extra forum gave. So i'd be up for it. Hopefully with the same team although most of them have been quiet on DPC recently but perhaps the league will bring them back if they have time.

I wasn't around the last time DPL was on but I'd be up for it if a team takes me haha :-)

What is DPL? Could someone explain it or point me to an explanation?

My old team was pretty cool, but I'd REALLY like to see some sort of way to ensure that teams are balanced and fair with respect to team members experience and performance capabilities. Essentially I'm against a "Ribbon Hogs" team. Perhaps some sort of way to ensure that each team has a few veterans and a few mid level people, and a few n00bs.. It would increase competition, increase learning, and should lead to a better overall experience.

There, now I've had my say on this matter.

I'd love to participate in the next DPL. Don't have experience or the stats to write home about, so would be happy to be on anyone's team! As coryboehne succintly put it, I'd definitely be classified as a "nOOb" :)

Goodness, this almost feels like gym class again where everyone's waiting in line to be picked for the team!

I've long advocated a system like what's used for amateur golf tournaments, where participants are grouped into A, B, and C groups based on their handicaps and each team of 4 has 1 A player, 2 B players, and 1 C player. Of course, the hard part would be deciding how to "handicap" DPCers... If you do it on ribbons, I'm an "A" player — but if you do it on average score, I'm probably a "B" player. It gets complicated.

The way I scored the DPC Olympics worked pretty well. You earned points based on how you did compared to your average. So a 6.5 for a person with a 6.8 average actually was a negative score.

The top 5 scores (positive or negative) were used from each team.

And the averages were based on the previous 10-20 challenges NOT their all-time average.

Worked great.

I think handicappingby score would be the only fair way to go. Golfer's don't get handicapped by how many trophies they win, but how they score. I think weighing scores recieved and throwing in a component of 'most recent results', it might get you a decent handicap. Note that there are those that specifically have low scores due to choice of their own (bucking what DPC likes) and those folks could come out and score very high on a routine basis ( charliebaker comes to mind) if they decided.

But this is the issue you have with any handicap system, the sandbagger....

Yup, that's what they called ME, until my DPO finishes didn't beat my average anyway :-)

Don't you have a lot of sand out your way as it is....maybe that is why they called you that...

Hi Damon! Hey, I thought it worked just fine. There were issues just like anything else in life, but overall it worked out great for me. It was fun, I learned a lot, and I got motivated.

I miss the DPL so count me in. I have been on 2 good teams in the past, have worked with great folks and miss it. I havent been shooting at all in the past couple of months due to going through a divorce but this would get me going again.

oh man, just reading about DPL. It sounds intense. :S

Interested? Of course! It's a fabulous game and while a lot of work for the organizers,
it's a whale of a lot of fun for the participants. And people come back to DPC just to play.

Only if it requires special shoes. It's just not a competitive sport if it doesn't require special shoes.

I'm not playing if I have to buy shoes. I hate shoe shopping!
