I've never found most comments "helpful" unless the commenter goes into great detail as to why he or she likes, dislikes, or offers a thoughtful way to change it, which most people don't have the time for. I think just "comment read" would make a lot more sense in the tick box, but that's just my take on it. Ok, let's all put on our happy hats and sing Kumbaya.

That is a true artist. Be true to yourself no matter what anyone thinks.

While some of comments where harsh I think my point has now been taken.

On the next challenge I will take time to be more descriptive.

I am a normal person and this is how I see things.

So there was a point? What was it?

Tom, are you a student? Is this an assignment for you? I'm just curious.

Point

Don't be so quick to judge without thought

See how your low scores effect the person that took the photo

I am a student but not an art student.

Just finished voting. There were some real winners (and sorry to say, many more losers) in my opinion. I enjoyed voting. I left some pretty lengthy comments on some but I tend to say what comes to mind when I first view the image, and as I'm typing, the picture more of less dictates the rest of my remarks. :) Good luck everybody.

Maybe on the next challenge, you should take time to enter.

I guess this is the art world. Those of us who haven't grown thick skins have to quickly. I understand the point Tom is trying to make, but I think it is for the wrong reasons. I feel a spiteful, hurt attitude from him. If you're looking for productive feedback about your pictures, why don't you just ask one of us if we'll give it to you?

I get the point as well, but I don't get how a spiteful, hurt attitude could exist in a new member that never submitted a photo or received a vote. My tinfoil hat is on firmly on this one.

There are two things I like about the comment you gave me.

1.) I feel like a winner
2.) You like the exact same thing that Zepcrmc hates about my image.

He's never entered a contest? Well, to me that says lack of confidence. No confidence in himself/his pictures = hate for those who have confidence in themselves/their pictures.

And I was lucky to get one of yours. Thanks for that!

This thread is depressing...

I think there is something good to be said for everyones photos and there is always room for improvement.

I love receiving conflicting comments about the same aspect of an entry. It makes things interesting and reminds me that these are opinions.

You have rated 165 of 230 images (72%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 10 images (4%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.1212.

I'm still poking around and doing some voting. I missed entering this challenge (weather & models didn't line up). However, I'm trying to comment more often. I don't have a lot of technical knowledge, so most of my comments are just novice opinions, which is why I sometimes hesitate to comment at all. I wonder if the comment I make is just me 'not getting' the intention of the photographer. That being said, I hope no one gets offended by any comment I make! And so far, I'm really digging many of these entries!

I just read through this thread. I'm looking forward to the next thread that asks why no one is leaving comments lol.

I'm a little bummed about my score, but I did learn something from this challenge, so I'm happy with it. That's the whole point, isn't it?

edit - k honestly, I'm not actually "bummed" anymore because I see the flaw with the image and I'm not so attached now.

Learning! I learned!

Got a great comment that gave me some amazing insight into the technical aspect of my photography that I probably should consider in the future to help me create a more successful image. ;)

LOL! What I probably needed at the end of my post there was some sort of sarcasm smiley face. Is there a smiley face icon that exudes sarcasm?

Strangely my image in the Disassembled Challenge is doing better than the one I entered here...and the photo in this challenge is a much better image by far. I'm sure everyone has seen this before. However, because I'm new I'm baffled!
