Well, finally got around to going through most of the photos. For those who are interested, we went to Vasquez Rocks in Santa Clarita, Balboa Lake and the Japanese Gardens in the Sepulveda Recreation Area. Other than the heat, it was definitely a nice outing. I've posted my favorite shots from the day here:

Great photos! Mine were okay. Many bird shots were blurry. I suck at taking far away clear shots of birds, even if they are sitting still. I tried auto focus, but it tends to focus on their back or something past the bird... so the eyes are blurry :( I tried manual focus, but maybe my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. I will post my shots eventually... :) I'll let you know when!

I don't think it's just you...I get that all the time, including a lot of the photos from this last Sunday. If you notice the grasshopper (?), he is slightly out of focus as well, and that was the sharpest of several that I took. I hope your macros came out better. The posted pics were the best out of 3 CF cards, so it just goes to show how much I suck LOL! There was also some post processing on all of these to make them look a lot better... straight out of the camera they were pretty flat and dull. I can't wait to see some of the ones you guys got.

Very nice, Ari!! My favorites are 142 and 081 and the twig with the blurred background (sorry, didn't get the number). Can't believe I lived down there and never knew about it!

Really nice Arielle... I really like what you did with the fish, that came out really cool. Also great job with the lizard and the bee and the dragonfly (If it was only slightly sharper, the dragonfly would have been incredible!) Must be a really nice macro lens you were using! LOL

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the Grasshopper headshot is awesome! You can se the little hairs on the back of his neck! Was that a major crop, or did you move in that close with the lens?

Now you guys have done it. I'm really missing So Cali now.

Have to justify some "business" travel soon.

Nice shots BTW. Good to see Vasquez Rocks is still the same.

You guys should get out to the Devil's Punchbowl.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Where and what's the Devil's Punchbowl?
Thanks for all of your praise everyone! It was a lot of fun.
SoCal, that was a major crop! Thanks for letting me borrow your lens.
:)

Arie

PS. Yeah, i had trouble with those dragonflies. The branches were swaying and it was very hard to get them in focus with my lens.

It's a little further along (another 20 mins or so I think) than the Vasquez Rocks. Drove past numerous times but never stopped in. Here's a link for info:

I think it's a little too hot right now for that kind of outing though!

I hate the wind! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!!! :)

Drives me nuts trying to get a real tight closeup macro focused when the wind starts blowing. Sometimes I think there's some kind of cosmic connection between me hitting autofocus and the wind. It can be dead calm, but as soon as I press the button - its a hurricane!

Nice pics, looks like you guys had fun. I toyed with the idea of joining in, but Sundays don't usually work well for me. Maybe another trip....
