How about a "newbie" challenge? Only users that have never entered a challenge can enter.
It would be a good plunge for them to compete against only other new members...less intimidating.
Maybe the rest of us can welcome them with lots of constructive comments.

I would vote all 1's and leave harsh comments!
;-)

You would be the one to do that! Shame on you! ;)

This is a great idea!

I would DNMC all of them :) They have to learn sometime.

It would be a great idea as a basic editing, free study challenge. That would allow the most latitude in subject matter, which would probably promote having a higher entry count.

Great idea! It would be a lot less scary for them that way.

I really like the idea, but I am guessing there would be a REALLY low amount of entries. Because realistically, the long standing members are the ones that enter most entries in challenges, and there isn't any advertising going on that is attracting a steady flow of newbies.

This thread caught my attention as I consider myself a newbie, though I'm on my fourth challenge. What about a challenge for folks that have been here say less than a few months, and have the more experienced members provide meaningful/detailed feedback on each entry?

Wow I killed that dead. My bad.

LOL. I like it. Although 0 challenge participant would be like... 4 people. If it was to be a challenge, I think that either time 3-6 months?, or challenge entries <5?<10?<15? would be more appropriate.

Thread killer! What did that poor little defenseless thread ever do to you?! It didn't deserve to die so young, now it will never realize it's potential.

I agree...you'd likely have only a handful of entrants. Maybe say <10 challenges?

How about making it an Open Exclusive challenge with the other one being "Hazing" so the rest of us can have some fun with the newbies as well.

I can already picture the shot...

"A woody in a cardboard frat house, holding a miniature wooden paddle, and another woody bent over with his paper boxer shorts around his knees, arms bent up holding his face like he's embarassed."

DidIgetitright? :D
