Salt, take it with a grain of salt. Salt was thought to cure a small amount of poison, so when you suspected you had been poisioned ,you might take it with a grain of salt. Sand is just an irritant.

I'm going down, down, down...I think that was part of a song.

Oh yes, I had my share of leaving comments to each submission, not only to the ones i appreciated. I thought that once I give a poor mark it is necessary to say why.

I liked your comment on my submission (that is so far my personal worst scorewise and I am not surprised AT ALL) and disagree slightly on one point - will send you a personal message.
Keep up the enthusiasm!

I warned you about the dangers of counting votes, that way lies madness and vexation.

lol. Sand may have been more accurate :D
I was up for like 30 hours straight, I think by that time I was starting to lose it a bit. Another weird poison thing -- toasting. Toasts came about as a way to detect if there was poison in your drink. You would toast, making sure to splash and combine drinks while looking the other person in the eyes. If they showed signs of fear...

Is there a trend in the last years to cast lower votes? My last submission to a challenge is of 2008, and until that day I went below 5 only with really poor pictures...

I'm having my personal worst and even if I think my submission is not a great one, it's not that bad!

I know I tend to be a bit of a hard ass with voting, I view 5's as average, and then vote up or down from there. I don't usually go below 5 unless something seems really technically wrong. With this current challenge, my voting had three-9's, three-8's, three-7's, a ton of 6's and 5's, <10 4's, one-3, and one-1.

I don't expect to win, but if I do, awesome, something to add to my portfolio. I'm hovering around a 5.2-5.3 consistently for this challenge, with 2 comments. My biggest gripe is simply not knowing what people are reacting to in my shots. I would love to see the challenges have a 10-15s timer on the voting portion. *shrug*

and slowly falling like a leaf. the weird thing is that of the three images I have currently in voting it has the lowest score. I thought it would do the best of the three and has the most positive comments.

So is anyone feeling the love in this challenge? Are we looking at a new all time low front page score? The Pigeons challenge winner got 6.3972, anyone over that?

Correct. I've noticed that there a several top DPC photographers who never post their scores, but always end up on the front page. Rest assured there are much higher scores out there that aren't being reported in this forum!

This challenge seems like a bit let down to me and I can't help but feel that lately at DPC - creativity is being sacrificed for meeting the challenge. Just my personal views so no need to feel hurt if you submitted a creative shot

I hate trolls!! They disturb the time/space continuum and seriously upset my wa!!

Do you find that true of the other 3 challenges in voting? Weston, B&W and Free Study seem to allow any subject matter (Weston less so perhaps) and we have one subject specific challenge of the 3, and it is too limiting of creativity? I think there is an unfortunate schism in understanding on what the intent of this particular challenge was perhaps, but having one challenge out of four where all entrants are asked to photograph a given thing. A subject challenge, be it a tree, a shoe, or a person's face, fosters creativity and allows you to see the multiplicity of approaches to a given subject. I like subject challenges, I like technique challenges, I like a variety of limitations to give a challenge a focus.
