Wow, this challenge has some interesting voting to be sure. Started the morning at 5.8 when I woke up, and now down to 5.2. I wonder what's got everyone in such a low voting mood today.

That's not to much to ask for is it? I understand not every photograph appeals to everyone. But tell me why and then give me the 1. Lot to learn on my end but it's difficult when you get no comments. Hide your personal techniques but tell me what I'm doing wrong. Oh, thanks to those that do leave comments. It does help us noobies.
Have a nice day... :)

You are perfectly right to expect an explanation of a low score. But you are totally wrong when you say: "Hide your personal techniques but tell me what I'm doing wrong". You do nothing "wrong". I suppose that people think that sometimes the words might hurt more than the score.
In what I am concerned, my low votes go for images lacking force or originality, for easy choices (put a nice woman in the picture and you are done with), for predictability, for stock photography when the challenge does not specify its need, or, to quote ubique (I think) for "photos without any consequences" ....

One of the problem I think, lies in the fact that there is a clear preference of a lot of voters for great photo technique where the imagination or subject counts less or for sleek photography (where I tend to include parts of Librodo work, thus the challenge In the Style of ... did not interest me much).
This preference of the majority is made obvious by the coming challenge:

5.17 - I really thought this would do better. Not great but 6ish.

OK, got over the hump of falling numbers today and on an upward climb. One day down and how many to go?

Going off of some of the comments in the thread, I wrote something for them all. Some more detailed than others. I'm waiting for the hate mail now.
You have rated 119 of 120 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 120 of 120 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.5714.

I didn't vote on the one entry I knew. Meanwhile, I've dropped .4 since this morning.

Glad to have received the comments I received, they seem helpful, and might help me to pin-point why the score seems so low. I was hoping for 6, but expecting 5.4 or so. I'm a bit surprised to be in the 4's, It takes a lot for me to judge something as 'less-than-average.' Oh well, onward to the next challenge.

Here's a tip folks... if you cannot vote correctly, don't vote.

Thanks.

How do you give somebody a one considering they at least tried and entered a photo. If it's that bad and you must give them a one at least leave a comment stating why the photo impacted you so negatively.

OK, no more of my complaining. It is what it is and I'm just going to have fun. Let the chips fall where they may. Time to try to catch a bird in flight. So far all I have is a speck that may be a bird or could just be dust in my lens. Man I need a telephoto in the worst way!

I got another 1 and a 2! That's the only way to get 3 points in two votes... Awesome!

And I used to give ones for DNMC... because we cannot give 0s, but I've changed to a -3 penalty (which could be a 1 still) and I at least tell them it was DNMC...

But my photo has a bottle prominent in it and has received several 7s, 8s, and 9s (not enough, but some), so it's not a DNMC, so the 1s and 2s make no sense except that morons are online.

some pretty aggressive voting going on here, the first 80 votes made me believe i had a front page shot the last 15 have been probably the lowest votes i've ever had here at DP, i'm now sitting in the middle of the pack or thereabouts.
Enough moaning, i'm now going to concentrate on next weeks "Focal Point" challenge. These challenges are a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride but at least they get me out shooting and hopefully improving. Good luck to you all.

How do you know what you're getting? I can see the average but I can't seem to find the individual votes.

Yes, aggressive voting and aggressive attitudes. DNMC is some form of expression for some people's inability to understand or feel some images. It is probably best to concentrate on learning and publishing on 1x. Judging by some recent ribbons the score here is not indicative of the originality or artistic merit.

I am very interested in how Librodo's own image scores in his own challenge, and how many 1s and 2s he gets. DNMC has been severely overused by some people on outstanding images they do not understand.

DNMC is actually for when the person's image does not meet the challenge using any normal, rational, or even minor bend over backwards interpretation.

A shot of a flower in a dog challenge would be DNMC, but we'd get one because we're to believe that a dog once peed on or smelled the flower...
