I've ordered my long awaited Canon 7D and battery grip, and I'm so excited I could burst! I've followed this camera starting 6 months before it's release during the Canon Rumor stages, and read tons of reviews etc. Finally it was time to get one, and I should have it tomorrow if all goes well!

I can't wait! I'll probably be staring out the window at 3 AM looking for UPS trucks in the early morning hours. LOL!

Thanks! I know I will too. My sister bought got one between Thanksgiving and Christmas of last year based on my suggestion etc. I've used her camera a couple of times when showing her some functions and general photography tips etc. I was even more in love with the camera once I shot with it for awhile. She lives about 5 hours away, so if not for that I'm sure I would have used it more often.

Time to scan through the downloaded manual to refresh myself on the menus, knobs and buttons so I am ready to shoot once it arrives and the batteries are charged!

It's funny...once the 7D was released I would often go to the camera profile page here at DPC and check up on the number of owners. It started with one, then 3, than 12 then 21 etc. Seemed like it was hanging pretty steady, but now there are 454 owners! Tomorrow there will be 455 owners...or maybe even this evening once I update my profile page. :)

ETA: OK, I couldn't wait, and HAD to update my page. I'm officially the 455th Canon 7D owner here at DPC. Woo Hoo!

LOL...Ironically, I just got off the UPS page. It was originally scheduled for Thursday delivery, but it's DEFINITELY coming tomorrow now by the end of the day! You are right though....definitely a lot of update button abuse going on. LOL.

About the same. Aches, but not really painful. Have to stay home for a week and drive my wife crazy.

At least it's not crazy painful. Now I'm confused though. I don't know whether to send you a get well card or Ellen a sympathy card! LOL.

One of the things I'm excited about is having the ability to trigger my 580EX II flash off camera with the Canon 7D. I know it's not as advanced as say PocketWizards etc., but at least if will get me started with OCF experimentation until I'm ready to invest in triggers. I have considered getting the Cactus ver 5 triggers to use manually for setup and still life shots. They are reliable and a good place to start even though you don't have E-TTL capabilities. In a lot of cases manual mode is better anyway.

So, anyway..I'm going to have some fun with my flash now. :)

Thanks Daniel and Susie! That's one of the reasons why I love this community of ours so much. There is genuine happiness for others in times like this, and of course the opposite is true. In times of sorrow and darkness we pull together as well. A great place to be, and I'm happy to share my news!

I'm pretty happy with my 7D. I was using the 30d prior to this upgrade. I also bought a battery grip, but I bought a 3rd party grip instead of the Canon and saved about $70. I'm quite happy with that grip too.

Switch "camera" with "child" periodically in conversations on here and guess which is which ;)
Congrats on the new body- great way to invigorate your interest and the addition of off camera flash work will really push you in new directions. It's fun stuff!

Thanks Derek and John. It definitely is invigorating to say the least. The child thing is true because earlier this evening when I was commenting here I thought to myself that I felt like an expectant father excited about the impending birth of his child. Too funny!

John, I loved the Canon grip I have for my XSi/450D so I stuck with that, but I'm sure there are other 3rd party grips out there that do the job well. That's the most important thing...if it works and you're happy it can't be a bad thing!
