Hey guys!
I will be spending easter in the South Island of New Zealand mainly around Queentown. Staying at a family farm at //www.lauderdale.co.nz/
Im told there is some stunning photography opportunity in the area.
Im going to spend about $1000 on a hire camera but not sure if I should go full frame or crop. I have had a 50D in the past and loved it but never used full frame.
I will be taking portrait and landscape photos. I will have a laptop to store photos.
The lens I will hire are
Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8L II USM for landscape
Canon EF 70-200 F2.8L IS USM Lens for zoom and stuff. love this lens. they dont have 2 model
Canon EF 50mm F1.2 L USM Lens for portraits of kids and family
So should I go full frame or crops. Price isn't an issue. What about my lens choice?

Full frame without question. The buttery-smooth tonalities are perfect for landscape and portrait both. Lens choice is fine for FF, but not wide enough for the 7D and, arguably, a little short on the long end for 5D. If you go 7D, you want the 10-22mm in the mix, and then the 24-70mm probably. If you want more reach with FF, a 2X telextender will do the trick.

One thing that I would throw out there for consideration is that typically ultra-wides are terrible for stitching if you plan to do any panoramas. I would definitely suggest the 24-70 being a great choice on FF. When I was there, I mostly used an 18-200 on a crop sensor. Yes, there were times that I used my 10-20, but honestly, they weren't all that numerous.
It's gorgeous there- this was taken just outside Queenstown

I'm in NZ since one month and I don't stop using my 16-35 on a FF. I miss a tele sometime but mostly when I'm tramping... and I prefer to be light at this time so its not a big deal.
Take a look at kiwipixel.Wordpress.com or kiwiroadtrip.com for some shot in this awesome country.
Have a good trip ;) |
