Ohh I love Impressions, I've muted the colours in this a bit.

Being a person with science/tech background I have decided to put a structure to my comments. It is as follows:

1. First impressions - what is good about the image, what feelings it evokes, what is most striking
2. Technique - how it was done? Some special way during taking the photo or only PP? What type of PP?
3. Suggestions - alternative PP, ideas for a different approach, pointers

I will try to do this with the first images and see if it works. Let's do it!

Besides being a worthwhile plan for commenting on other people's images, I think it is also a very good structure for you to talk about your own images as you make them for this project. I find it very interesting, well, not always, but often, to read what people where thinking when they made an image, what they think is good about the image, what they meant to say with it, and then also some of the technical details of how the image was made. :)

Thanks, Ursula. Good idea. Would every contributor like to make some notes in Photographer's Comments along these lines?

Excellent ideas here. The thing is, when I do art, I avoid thinking. So, talking about art makes me feel pretentious. Or maybe I am pretentious already anyway. Or maybe it's just my age & I actually can't think any more. I try to be in the moment, outside of my thinking self, using the camera as an extension of my unthinking mind, & I PP the same way. After all then fun is over, then I analyze, rationalize, verbalize, etc. I'm interested in Impressionism because it seems to me to fit nicely in my process. I'm mostly interested in your first reactions to what I post. Initial impact. If any. If you find yourself asking questions I will enjoy trying to answer them.

The challenge encouraged me to take a look at some photos I took last year, but never did anything with. Very little processing, just a slight tweek of levels, a slight pale vignette, sharpened and sfw.

In response to a request to see more in-camera work, this one is unedited except contrast, clarity, vibrance in RAW.

Who knows what it is? How it was made? Guesses?

An image from last year, one of my personal favorites.

For Ursula, a DPL2 casulty sitting in my workshop.

Impressionism in one of its sweetest form (almost). I feel like eating a pickle now! No wonder why fauvism and cubism followed it. Just trying my hand before going to bed.

I'm probably not "getting" this... but here's another try...

Going to throw my hat in the ring too. At least from time to time. These days I shoot most of my non-DPC images in an impressionist style. The effects in all of these are done in camera
