Nope - it is in addition to voting results.

It's a normal challenge, voted by the usual voters, but with a twist: a jury of art-minded individuals was empaneled by consensus, and they picked a group of winners after discussion amongst themselves.

Here's the challenge: Fine Arts — Exhibit 1

Here are the juried results.

Jurors for this challenge were: zeuszen, ursula, RKT, Bear_Music, posthumous and Pawdrix, who is no longer a member of the site.

Yes, time for Fine Arts II.

Ahhh, so there's essentially two sets of winners. One as decided by the voters, and one as decided by the jury?

Is there usually some specific criteria by which the jury judges differently from the challenge as outlined?

Criteria? No... But we'd like to think they might actually "know" something about what is and what isn't fine art.

We had a pretty varied spectrum of tastes amongst those judges, and there were some interesting discussions. But we took it seriously, which is the main thing :-)

Robert, can/will you and Louis lead the gathering of a jury?

Well, I'd be happy to and I know Louis wants to be involved. Do I hear any objections? Sound off, people...

Oh, Robert, this is a great challenge concept that will never get the traction it needs to impress Langdon if someone doesn't just seize the bloody reins and take charge. You're obviously the right person, and nobody could possibly object to that. Please just exercise the mandate you already have by right, awaken/assemble the other judges, and just get on with it.

LOl!!! multilingual, sort of...
There was a time when my German teacher informed us that although "heis" means "hot" in most senses, not to use it in reference to yourself. That is, "Ich bin heis" would not mean "I am very warm" but "I am turned-on!" Fun with translations.
From a google search.... in Spanish listo can mean ready or intelligent depending on which verb to be it is used with. Pedro está listo means Pedro is ready. Pedro es listo means Pedro is intelligent.
So, whether you are ready, or intelligent, you seem vorsatz.

So anyone want to define Fine Arts for me?
I am rather uneducated when it comes to this sort of thing. Looking through the challenge entries, it appears the blurrier the better, but I am sure that if I were to submit merely a blurry picture that it would be slaughtered.
Care to enlighten me. For something to be "fine art" what does it need to accomplish?

It's different for everyone and really hard to nail down a finite definition, but I ask myself "Does this look like something I would hang on my wall?"

I would enjoy judging again but will gladly step aside if someone else wants a turn.

I think the biggest thing is that it needs to create a sense of impressionism, and it had better be unfinished (like... NOT eyecandy), and a bit of grain is good, along with some blur, but only to enhance motion, or time, or to help tell a story, or better yet, a part of a story, one that fascinates and leaves the viewer hungry, and allows them to finish the story any one of a thousand ways... That is fine art. Or not, as I'm sure I'm pretty much wrong about all of this, or not. *shrug* ;)

Ummm, no I think you really should be on the jury, you're one of the foremost authorities... No reason the jury has to be limited to 5 members is there? 7 would work fine wouldn't it?
