The results of the 'Best of 2010' challenge have been recalculated, due to the disqualification of the former 3rd place image for being unable to provide valid originals. Congrats to our new ribbon winner!

Thanx mate. I lost the whole aperture project that I had backed up..... Disk failure. I had back-ups of the 16bit TIFF's but not the RAW original. Lost everything from that visit........What do you do, have two back-ups..????? Still, at least I know it scored well, so life goes on....... No biggie.. :)

That sucks. I guess that's one of the things with this challenge, is that you need to have a backup for a year (in the worst case). For myself, I keep a copy on my PC for as long as possible, in addition to a backup on 2 passport drives (that I keep identical) and a burned DVD copy. Haven't had a failure yet, but it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Aperture library on one hard drive. Aperture vault on a different hard drive. Hard drives fail all the time, but it would be rare to have two hard drives fail at the same time.

Your house could burn down or flood/windstorm/earthquake/volcano could hit, etc. This event has me thinking I need to back up select 5 star RAW images to the clouds. It's too big of a job to go back and do this for past projects, but I'll start backing up a handful of RAW images from each new project.

Well most importantly you still have your image (at least in TIFF). Heck, just an excuse to go back, eh? Wonderful shot, regardless of hardware failures.

I do 3 backups too. 1 of those is to burn to CD and keep in a separate location (hubby's workplace) in case of a house fire.

Have my backups on 2 different hard drives AND burn a DVD of each shoot I do. Yes, obsessive, but...

Backup on hard drive and online storage for me :)

That sucks, your image was very engaging and detailed, still a wonderful photo, regardless.

My view exactly. Funny though, in the past I would have freaked at this, I find I'm far more accepting now, not so obsessive...... I find I now have allowed myself to simply enjoy my photogrsphy, and ensure that others also enjoy it. Winning no longer means as much. Still cool though :)
