I read this article earlier today and it just broke my heart. Not only because of what those poor children had to go thru right here in this country but also because we see news like this WAY to often.
Forgive my simple mind but I just can't understand why or how these things continue to happen in our world. For as many advancements that we've made as human beings, news stories like this one only demonstrate that we have learned nothing from our history nor have certain individuals evolved past being sub-human monsters.
What is it going to take for the tragedy to stop? How can someone look at a child and not be humbled by their innocence and their need to just be loved?? How can an individual look at another person, a person with feelings and dreams all their own, and rationalize that they are allowed to inflict whatever pain they feel justified in inflicting??
I just don't get it :-___

I am disgusted with us humans when I read something like this. I can't even fathom how someone could act in this way and also get away with it for as long as they did.

We selectively breed our dogs, cattle, horses, chickens, etc. but allow any human to produce offspring at will. We even provide them with food, shelter, clothing etc. and allow them to spend what money they earn on beer, cigaretts, movies, lottery tickets or any other useless crap they wish. And, we don't punish (read 'kill') the really bad ones like those shown in this article.

Interesting point, David. My first thought upon reading the article was that upon conviction, they [the criminals] should be caged, punished as they "punished" their children, and then executed. Further reflection makes me wonder if my attitude makes me as 'monsterous' as those who committed the crime...

No it doesn't, and don't let yourself be fooled into that line of thinking. Punishing and/or eliminating evil is not evil.

Boy, reading that article just makes me feel so sad....I can't imagine doing any of those to a little child...not to mention a disabled little child! :-(

I completely agree with you, ScottK. No one should feel guilty for seeking justice for those abused.

How in the hell were those 'people' able to adopt so many foster children? Didn't any state or local officials, or whoever was supposed to do so, ever investigate their fitness as parents? Especially since they managed to latch on to so many unlucky children? Now I am sure those 'people' were getting some kind of taxpayer-funded subsidy for those foster children (this is really pissing me off!) and it seems like nobody bothered to check and see how the public money was being abused.

The conditions and inflictions sound like Abu Ghraib.

Sadism lives on. :(

Um, one small difference. These are disabled children, not prisoners.
