Greetings all,

Just a bit of curiosity here. What do you drive for a daily vehicle?

My curiosity is based on my profession: Auto shop owner and Master Auto Technician. Personally, I drive a 1986 Toyota Camry with 243,000 miles on it, and my wife is the original owner of her 1986 Camry with 156,000 miles. (I am smart - I know where to get good used parts!! LOL ) Actually mine is well-maintained, ready to be driven anywhere at any time and recently went to Arizona with it (from CA), over the mountains & through the heat of the desert, A/C on & no problems.

So what do the rest of the gurus here drive?

Interesting topic... I'm always curious about what people drive as sometimes their vehicles say alot about their individuality.

Anyway, I drive a red VW Turbo Beetle. Sprocket (yes, he has a name) is what they call a 'Concept Beetle' so he sports a spiffy red & black leather interior and an 8 speaker Monsoon sound system because tunes are important.

And when I drive it somewhere cool, I take his picture :-)

2002 VW Jetta is my daily driver during the summertime. It's been completely modified and only gets driven during the nice-weather months. During the winter, I drive a 1986 VW Jetta (yes, i'm a Volkswagen nut) that does the snow duties.

Edit: Wow, I just hit the reply button and saw more VW owners posted (guess I'm a slow typer). Here's a link to my local VW club web site with pictures of my car in case anyone's interested :-)

A graphite Volvo 744T with 315.000 km on it. I doubt I'll ever buy another car again.

1999 VW Passat 1.9 tdi
But I miss my Volvo 740 estates...no room for the odd settee or single beds in the Passat.

Boring, practical, but excellent "value": 2001 Toyota Corolla. I am a small person, so I have always preferred small cars. Classic cars in the family: '57 Chevy Sedan Delivery and '69 Chevy Corvette. Much more fun and beautiful to look at!

The metro bus. Fab blue paint job, squeeky brakes.

1995 Ford Ranger XLT. Over 100,000 miles on it right now. It's been trouble free for the most part. Just routine maintenance. It does however need an alignment right now. Pulls a little to the right. I've also been putting off a spark plug change because it's such a pain in the butt to get to the back two plugs. Good call Ford!

The body could also use a little work. The grill is cracked and I'm missing a fog light from where I hit a deer. There's a huge dent in the bed where somebody hit and ran while it was parked out front. That's not the first time that sort of thing has happened. I gave up on getting the body repaired long ago. I can't tell you how many times I've come out to find kids (complete with bicycles) playing in the bed of my truck or to find somebody has used it as a garbage can or some jerk has hit it.

I wouldn't hesitate to drive it virtually anywhere. The only issues would be that the cab is compact and there is no air conditioning. Living in the Bay Area and being strapped for cash at the time it wasn't on my list of must haves.

My daily driver, and only one, is a 2003 VW GTI 20th Anniversary (#1073). I love VWs and will get another after this unless I get really rich then I'll spring for a BMW. :) I love the lines of German cars and how they flow around the car. Other cars I like: VW R32 (YUMMY!) and Touareg, Infiniti G35 coupe, BMW M3 and the M5, Subaru WRX STi, Acura NSX...shall I go on? :) I was actually trying to find a VW Jetta 1.8T wagon but those are VERY difficult to find.

BTW, my car is a girl but she is not named yet. I will find the perfect name for her very soon, I hope. My last car was named Tatiana just because I love that name.

And to Digistoune, I think the concept cars have a special paint job (with flop) but I think they only applied to the 2.0L versions not the Turbos. I could be wrong, however.

I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander, and I absolutely love it. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I chose it over the Camry only because I wanted more cargo space (pet carrier in particular).

2001 Ford Expedition... and I love it. Not much of a Ford fan but I couldn't afford the Toyota Sequoia. The Expedition has actually been a great truck...

Up untill recently it was an 81 cutlas supreme (tranny problems). Now I'm stuck driving a 97 Camaro Z28 convertable (yeah, poor me)'till I can find another oldie. I love my convertable of course, but I still love big old cars.

I've had only positive experiences with Fords. You just have to get the right model. They make the "First On Race Day" model and the "Found On Road Dead" model. A friend of mine always bought their third model, the "Messed Up Shit That Ain't No Good". He never could pick 'em though.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Love the car but hate having to put premium gas in it. But with the supercharger it does go FAST!

I drive a 1998 Ford Countour with about 15,000 miles on it. Only recently have things started to break on it. I'm in a small town and have taken it to the Ford dealer both times and lost the use of it for more than a week each time (because they have to order parts from Albuquerque or out of state of course).

My wife has our 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. I pretty much love that vehicle even though we did get the 4 cylinder (the only way to get s stick shift) and have found it to be a bit underpowered.

These days we haave to be pretty practical with a family and all. I drive a 01 Pontiac Sunfire, which has been a great car that I really like, and the wife has a 00 Chevy Cavalier, which she says she really enjoys, but it doesn't do much for me. My favorite car I've had was my 79 El Camino which was emmense fun but a lot of work. I also had a 69 Dodge Dart and a 76 Olds Cutlass that I enjoyed a lot. I like old big cars. Someday though, I aim to have a Jaguar, or a huge Caddy. :-D

WHen my-son-the-nineteen-year-old-marine totaled my car, I took the meager settlement an bought an Olympus E-1 and a $100 Toyota Camrey 1985 with 49,000 miles. It has since lost a timing belt and become a $300 car. From your experience I've got a lot of years to go before I need another. We had a previous Camrey wagon (86) with 238,000 miles and kept it two years. That one was $2. Guess the don't hold their resale value as well as they hold up.

'03 F-150 SuperCrew. Picked it so I could haul band and gear around without needing multiple vehicles. Gas milage sucks, but my commute is about 6 miles, so its not too painful. Had it almost 10 months, and only have about 8200 miles on it. I probably put more miles on it wandering around on my lunch break looking for photo ops than on the actual commute. I'm happy with it so far...
