I was thinking about buying one. I tried the droid 2 global at the verizon store, and really liked it. However, when I checked the reviews online -- they suck.

When I checked the reviews of other smart phones, they also had a tendency to suck because of battery life and supposedly have to recharge multiple times a day.

Do you own a smart phone? If so -- what brand and do you like it?

Are you planning on staying with Verizon? The Samsung Galaxy-s phones are sold by most carriers and have been getting great reviews. Biggest downside is that the Samsung phones seem to be slow to get upgrades to the Android system. It's been a subject on the tech blogs recently.

I have the T-mobile G1, which was the first Android phone on the market. Kinda slow by current standards and I'm starting to see some applications that can't run on it. I've been quite happy with it, however. It's made by HTC, as are many of the android phones on the market. I'm considering upgrading to the G2, which is also made by HTC.

I have the Droid 2 from Motorola, and I definately do not have to charge multiple times a day... Maybe once every 2 days *unless I use the GPS or something, that eats battery fast*...

The Droid 2's GPS is WAY WAY WAY better than the Samsung Galaxy S's (We have one of each...), but the AMOLED screen on the Galaxy is indeed to die for.....

Stop listening to the trolls and the Apple Fanboys, Droids are awesome little units, besides, ask the rep, there's probably a 15 or 30 day return window..

FYI - I saved a ton of money buying the second Droid @ Costco instead of Verizon's store... And I think their return policy is better too...

I have a Motorola Cliq (Android) and have been perfectly happy with it. I typically recharge mine every other day, but the battery would probably last me three days. I'm not a heavy phone user though. I would imagine that the people with your choice phone that are reporting to have to recharge multiple times a day are above average users.

There's a buy one get one deal going on at verizon, so we were looking at one for me and one for my husband. (he likes the x better, but that's too big for a pocket.)

I really liked the Droid 2 when I tried it... but the reviews really stink. It's nice to hear you get more than a days worth of charge.

oh, and yes. I'm sticking with verizon. It's a small town, and the other carriers suck.

As previously suggested, it depends on what you keep running. I turn off my GPS, 3G and I don't keep a lot of applications running that are busy communicating all the time. I get about 2 days out of a charge after having the phone for over 2 years. If I turn a bunch of stuff on and forget about them, then battery life goes down noticeably.

They're going to have to pry my iPhone from my cold, dead hands. I love it. But don't get an iPhone w/Verizon this year. Get the Droid X. Don't forget to get a Jawbone, too. IMO. One of the best things about a smartphone is that I no longer surf the internet on my workstation at work. It doesn't matter anymore that DPC is unavailable at work, I can check my scores anytime I want to. hehe. Also easy to keep track of the weather, always entertaining when there's a tornado watch. A smartphone is more fun that you'd think a grownup would ever have! "D

Oh. a jawbone is a brand of bluetooth. I hate holding a phone up to my head. so I use a bluetooth ear-piece thingy.

Droid 2 is great! There is a free App...Advanced Task Killer, and another to control display and these will save tons on battery life. I charge mine every 2-3 days and it never gets turned off.

I have a droid as well, and I LOVE it. It will last up to 3 days on standby (yeah, I'm a hermit and nobody calls me). even with heavy use all day, it will last a full day. That's with surfing, calling, checking email, using the gps.

which droid do you have?

I have an HTC EVO on sprint. I use this thing. Even as a Wifi Hotspot to send photos to the paper. I do have to charge the phone once during the day on heavy duty use days. But it's essentially a small computer that I use as well as a phone. The droid market is full of great Apps and phones to get whatever you need done.

I have a LG Ally. I really like it but if I use it a lot during the day I do have to charge it in the evening. I love the camera on it.
Oh yeah...it has a physical keypad verses a touchscreen which I really like!

Not sure, I think 2.2.1? It slides and has a keyboard.

We have three HTC Droid Incredibles here. They're... incredible! :)

We don't get as good a signal here with Verizon as we did with with our previous AT&T phones, but the droids do so much more.

Just keep in mind that no matter which phone you get, it will probably be outdated before your first phone bill is due. :)

We've done a few cameraphone challenges in the past, but the state of the art has improved to where it's not much of a challenge any longer.

I was just THINKING that the other day as I was organizing challenge topics and thinking about scheduling. I said to myself "Been a while since we've had a Phone-cam challenge!" and then I realized that'd be, like, NO challenge at all. And I remembered how I had to BORROW a phone to shoot for the first of those challenges :-)

NOW, easily 2/3 of my non-drone work is with the Samsung S21 Ultra, which has better image quality than most of the digital cameras I have ever owned :-) I even have a little pistol-grip thingy with a shutter button on it that I keep in the car so I can use it lIKE a "real" camera if I'm not too lazy to put it on...

I was out running errands today and I almost thought about grabbing my camera just in case I saw a subject that was worthy of a power subject . . . But then realized, I don’t feel safe leaving my camera in the car these days and heck, my phone will do if I see something that just ‘works’ . . .
