I composed a photograph during the DC night outing that I think would have been perfect for the Words challenge. I do not expect that I will be in the DC area before the challenge deadline, so will not be able to reshoot. I nonetheless wanted to share the photo both to get comments on it and to possibly help get ideas rolling for this challenge.

The average DPC voter with their "too dark" monitor might not see the words in the five seconds they allot to vote ... certainly an wonderful subject with good lighting on the statue.

I really love your pic... it´s just fantastic!

For this challenge, I think it will have a little problem with non-english country... Perhaps, if you don´t know what is the meaning of the word, you won´t understand the pic 100%. What do you think about it?

you were right there....it took me 15 seconds and viewing it twice to realise the words ;)

If I was still in Turkey I'd think about going back and reshooting these 2 pics...

Ya gotta read the signs.

If you're serious, you need a new monitor. Dayum, no wonder people don't like my pitchers.

I'm pretty sure my monitor is OK, as many of my photos get the "too dark" comment as well. I found the words on the example photo OK, but I suspect many DPC voters would not.

I can see them all just fine. I check my monitor often. I just keep eye on the scale on the bottom of the page when voting.

Dang it, now I have to find some other body parts to write on. And I just got the permanent marker off!

Dunno if it helps or not, but I find many of your pictures almost unviewably dark. Don't know if that is intentional though. This is on a couple of calibrated screens and my 'useably' dark screens at work, too. The latest 'invisible man' shot would be a good example - there are 3 orange splotches and that's about all the detail I can see. In contast (ho ho!) the original 'words' shot at the top of this thread is easily identifiable.

...

If our expectations aren't set appropriately now, they never will be. Best of luck, as your well behaved women photo is a favorite around this house.

I took this by accident when I first bought my cam and I whas testing it.

It's interesting like the "Be you" words comming out his mouth as his reading the letter. I wanned to better recreate this scene for this challenge, but it's summer and the damn tree is full of green and covers everything. :((

I am not sure about this words challenge. I mean you have to find something with WORDS on it? Cuz i have this HILARIOUS picture I took yesterday afternoon of a resteraunt called FLICKS RESTERAUNT... but in the picture of the sign the L and I are running into eachother so bad it looks like a U. So you can guess what it looked like. I think I have it in my yahoo photos.. maybe under photographs.

for me it says Flick's really clear and even if it didn't I wouldn't find that amusing enough to vote high on it... I find the ladies feet with the words on it really interesting and hope to see more of those photos where the words have become part of the picture as an artistic element (like the photo of the topic starter!)..the photos of signs I don't find interesting at all!

But that is merely my opinion...

I agree Fotowereld! It's going to take a little extra creativity for high votes in this one.
