Just announced a new improved version of Silver Efex. I didn't see a release date. I'm sure I'll end up upgrading, as I use Silver Efex a lot.

Nik Software - Silver Efex Pro 2

I noticed that announcement in the Nik group on Flickr yesterday. Upgrade price is $99 US. I wonder if the enhancements are worth it?

I love the old version, and am really interested in the additions to this new version. I'm concerned though that there will be limited 32bit support, as is the case with HDR Efex Pro. Hm. I keep getting closer to being forced into getting a 64 bit machine....

The Nik videos of the changes to Silver Efex Pro are very impressive. I just pre-ordered.

End of February. The enhancements are impressive and well worth the price of upgrade. Participate in a webinar "preview" and see for yourself. There's a webinar tomorrow morning.

eta: More recent info indicates mid-February. Also, no webinar discount on the $99.95 upgrade price. There is a webinar discount available for Silver Efex Pro I, which qualifies (after December 6, 2010) for a free upgrade to Silver Efex Pro 2.

eta2: Evidently, if you attend a webinar, you can capture a discount code which works. (today, but not yesterday. Who knows about tomorrow.)

I just got an email from NIK:
"Our records show that you purchased Silver Efex Pro version 1.0, or one of our Complete Collection bundles, on or after December 6, 2010 and, therefore, are eligible for a free upgrade to Silver Efex Pro 2."
Great! Since joining DPC I have rediscovered B&W. Looking forward to using it.

My favorite software, use it daily.
Best reason to upgrade is the intuitive history browser.

I attended a Nik Webinar today and they did offer a discount code that was good on both new and upgrade prices, 15% off. Unfortunately after I ordered my upgrade, $84.96 plus tax after the discount, I deleted the email with the code so can't pass it on. My guess is that they will be giving out that code for awhile for per-orders so attend an online class if interested.

Indeed. My license code just arrived via email. We are good to go. (I have a FS entry needing the new features of SilverEP2.)

Sitting here with serious envy. I need a complete system overhaul. This seven-year-old laptop is starting to handcuff me.

Took time to read the instructions. Important notice to those who also own Viveza2:

"IMPORTANT NOTE: For Viveza 2 owners, it is critical that the free new update to Viveza 2.004 be downloaded and installed prior to installation of Silver Efex 2. This update will resolve potential conflicts that could occur with the installation and activation of Silver Efex Pro 2."

Oh dear. I always jump right in. Didn't even see that for Viveza. Maybe I need to go uninstall SEP2 now and start again. I've been having a lot of fun the last hour or so :)

Snif... No code for me yet... Unless the code I got when I bought my SEP 1.0 4 days ago is good for SEP 2.0?

VIVEZA 2 Version: 2.004 - Release Date: 02/17/2011. Yes, if you didn't install it last week, then you should install that first before installing SEP2.

New code for SEP 2.0. I installed SEP 2.0 in addition to leaving SEP 1.0 in place.

Is this available yet? I went on the site to download it (I pre-purchased) and there's no link to download, only to buy.

I had pre-ordered the boxed version and just got my notice from Nik. Be patient, I'm sure they will get to you eventually.

The email from Nik comes with the download link and the 25 character license code.

It's my honor to post my first image processed in SEP2, along with "before" color image. I'm not looking for feedback on this, as this was an outtake from the Leading Lines challenge. Just an example of SEP2 results.

SEP2 is a much improved plugin. Very powerful and versatile. It's a winner.

Be sure to try out the U-Point technology selection point "selective saturation". Easy and clean masking. Add back color after a conversion to B&W. Red tailed hawk and original:

That hawk shot is phenomenal! Love the detail and the processing!

Just a quick drive-by with Silver Efex Pro 2.0 — still don't have key, but am running it on 15-day trial. What's really nice is how you can break down structure, contrast, and stuff into different tonal areas.
