I have been looking to buy a P&S with a large (10x) zoom and a viewfinder. However, such a beast appears to be extinct. You can buy things like the G12 but although that has a viewfinder, it only has a 4x zoom. The same can be said of the P7000.

So, I have decided to go for a large zoom P&S. The criteria though is that the screen does not suffer from glare when framing/pointing etc. As mentioned above Samsung use the AMOLED screen with the WB600 camera. There's also a new WB700 that has just been released. Another alternative is the Lumix TZ10.

My question is - does anybody have any experience of these cameras and the problem, or not, of glare on the screen?

Thanks

I've never had any problem with glare unless shooting near directly into the sun or some other light source.

This Panasonic has good range, a viewfinder, a lens hood, shoots in RAW, and does a nice job with video.

I don't think that's what he means: he's talking about glare on the LCD screen, which is the only means of framing up images if you don't also have a viewfinder. And it can be TOUGH to do in some conditions.

Thanks. Yes, I was referring to glare on the screen rather than the lens.
I've now amended my original post.

Thanks

Oh...

Well then. Glare on an LCD screen for composition is nearly always a problem of some magnitude IMO unless it's dark or overcast. Especially if the camera does not have a tilting LCD screen to compose with.

I would never have a main camera without a viewfinder.

eta - The Panasonic I mentioned in my earlier post meets the criteria you've set I'm pretty sure.

I have a Canon Power Sot SX10 1S. It has a 20X zoom, a viewfinder and a swiveling screen. It is a nice versatile camera, but it doesn't shoot in RAW.

There have been "hacks" available for the ancestors (like mine) of these cameras which enable many additional functions, including RAW capture; you might want to check and see if one is available for your model.

As I understand it, it loads from the memory card, and so does not alter the camera's firmware, making it pretty safe to experiment with.

You DO realize it's illegal to shoot with a drunken camera?

Lol! No, I didn't ever come across that law, and I'm sure if you check out my 'found and fabricated filters' folder, you'll see that my Canon Power Sot and I have done a bit of infringing..

My old camera Fujifilm finepix s1800 has 18x zoom and a large 3 inch screen and glare was never a problem with me. I didn't use the viewfinder much.

Yah, but you live in ENGLAND: basically, glare's NEVER a problem there. Those of us who live where the sun occasionally shines, we have different issues :-)
