Entering the Free Study Marathon, I decided that since I had finally gotten some nice lighting (Hensel strobes baby!) and I find myself more and more drawn to portraiture than any other field of photography, that I would enter a portrait for each Free Study this year. My goal is to try as many different types as possible: self, couple, headshot, full length etc etc.
Was wondering if anyone else who is in the FSM would be interested in having a theme for the year, then we could post here and have a running conversation about how it's going, posting outtakes, what you are learning and so forth.

I signed up for the FSM, but my goal this year is to only enter photos I am happy with. Depending on how often I am able to get out, this might mean missing a challenge or two.

well thats still a goal worth talking about. Sometimes, entering a shot you are happy with and one you think might do well can be two completely different things.

My goal is to make sure I take at least one photo I'm happy with a month so I can enter each month. In the past I've missed a few, but really, since most of the challenge themes don't really fit my style, FS's are all I really have to enter!

However, for winter at least, I'm keen to work on portraiture as well...in fact, yesterday, I was looking for some books to improve in that regard. While I need to improve in "general" in the area, I feel my biggest hurdle is posing and setting mood. If you want to work together and cross-critique, in threads or through pms, give me a holler!

I'm totally down for that, I am going to start by re-watching an instructional dvd called "one light", have you (or anyone) ever seen it?

My goal would be to try harder to take a better picture.. I don't make the effort, I never have and that's a personality flaw that seeps into everything else I do. Very annoying.

My resolution will be 800 pixels on the longest side.

My goal will be to enter every FS with an image taken on my Droid. I need to convince myself that I dont need a proper point and shoot.

I should probably check to see if I even entered the FSM. I dont think I did.

Well been a while since I have posted to this, I must say entering a portrait every month has helped me learn more about the process. So far I have held par or risen in my f/s scre each month and if current voting holds I will have my best f/s score of the year so far, and as a side point, April was my first portrait of Sofia duh, that was wrong so i am branching out in models as well :)

I really would like to join in this fun, but just can't commit to one thing in the FS. Although I am, in fact, specializing in portraiture, I do enjoy other types of photography. I feel like I'm getting pretty good with the portraits, so I need to continue stretching and improving in other areas.

Maybe just a cross-critique thread? I'm open to possibilities.

you don't have to specialize in one type of shots, it could just be improving a technique. Adding shot critiques to this thread would be cool, my f/s's this year are fair game:

I guess I had a resolution just to enter every FS. So far I have entered a portrait for each month. I might have to refocus as this months score is dropping and if I want to beat this guy paulbtlw I need to come up with something special.:)
