As most of you know, Emerald was hit in 2008 with floods and worse again this year. The amount of water coverage was the equivalent of France and Germany with 200,000 people affected. But it didn't stop there. Many of the towns that have just been flooded and preparing for a second hit, with one town being hit 5 times since December 20. A large portion of Western Australia has also been flooded and now with Toowoomba and Brisbane (Queensland) being hit as well as Northern New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia under threat, I raise the concern for our Aussie members. Many people are dead or missing in these disasters and I would like DPC to put their heads together and try and make sure all our Aussies are accounted for. Aussies do well on this website. Love them or hate them, they are always there to cheer you up or offer advice. So please, if you have outside contact with any of the members, please check in with them to ensure they are safe and list them here so we can tick them all off. I will add the names to the list as you post them.

For the ones who are directly involved in these disasters, I wish you all the luck in the world. I understand what you are feeling and going through. Should you need a shoulder, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I am in Brisbane, which is now waiting for the river to peak by tomorrow.
So far, the water is getting closer to our house, but we're still ok.
We will probably lose our electricity very soon.

My in-laws have evacuated their house, moved a lot of their smaller possessions elsewhere, but the rest will be history. They expect the level of their river to be higher than the 1974 flood, and they were very much flooded even then.

It is all very scary :-(

Pray for the 90 or so people who are currently missing and unaccounted for - they hold grave fears for those.

Geeze.... Penny has two sisters in Australia, but I don't think they are in danger. My thoughts are with all of you :-(

I'm in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast (one hour above Brisbane).
We have been lucky here. Minor flooding and road closures.
Lots of areas here were flooded for the 1974 floods but it looks like we have been spared this time.
Major rain has stopped for now but showers will continue.
My heart goes out to all those that are loosing their homes and possessions.
Keep safe.

Fortunately I'm based in Sydney and safe. I was supposed to go to Brisbane next week for a two week business trip but have postponed that for a while.

I live in Ballarat, Victoria, and am safe. My daughter and her family live in Narangba, a northern Brisbane suburb. They were evacuated yesterday but later were able to return home. So far they are okay.

Hi all,

I just got an email from Art Roflmao checking on whether we're ok here (Thanks for thinking of us!). The flood waters are currently filling the park across the road and we've just come back from having a look. It's very freaky. We still have electricity but can't expect that will be around for long. Internet coverage comes in & out. We've got friends who have been evacuated and are currently waiting for the other side of this to see what happens. I shall post some photos later. We will be unaffected in the end despite the flood waters being so close, but its very sad to look at the houses around us that will go. Thanks again for thinking of us.

I have been watching the footage from my safety in Sydney and am horrified. Our thoughts & prayers are with those affected.

Are you evacuating? The worst is supposed to be in few hours from now.

No, we're on higher ground in our street so currently there's no need. We'll obviously need to keep an eye on the water down the street though! Our part of the street didn't flood in '74 so that's a good sign
