[quote=juliboc]"I think this challenge was challenging, and feel that is a good exercise. I gave it a lot of thought and study, and want to pursue it further. I'd like to be able to use the out of balance concept to create tension and positive discomfort when I want that effect.
Meanwhile, my score is full of discomfort -- around 4.8 at this time. I know I've gotten some 7s, but apparently I've gotten a lot more 3s and 4s. One comment said it was disturbing (I don't see that, but perhaps it is the off-balance discomfort), and one had very positive things to say."

tnum & juliboc, I win at 4.6000.

Though the week started out staggeringly strong, I'm sinking ever so slowly, like a party balloon with a leak.

I can't believe i had a 7 with 19 votes & now i'm sitting with a 5.8, can't wait until this challenge is finished. It will be interesting to see the difference between the participants average vote & the none participants average, i still think you
shouldn't be allowed to vote if your in the challenge.

I disagree with this. I think that often the participants have put a lot of thought into the topic, and often done significant research. The non-participants are less likely to be educated on the topic. This Out of Balance challenge is a good case in point.

This challenge is a great example of why I am here... To LEARN!

This AM I awoke to view four letters that although perhaps implied, have never actually appeared in any of my 250 odd comments I have received.... DNMC! I think that is another of my problems, I generally concentrate too much on the challenge theme, and not enough of the composition itself, so that was a new one for me!

I bring this up just to emphasize the lack of clarity and understanding of this particular challenge , not to complain about the comment or the score. I never expected to nail a concept the first time I tried shooting it, but again, that is why I am here. To be challenged.

Same thing here with my 162 previous entries - a DNMC comment. After looking through the entries, reading the threads, reading the tutorials, etc, it is apparent that the topic has been interpreted many different ways. While all of this is subjective, especially the effectiveness part, I must admit that I found the DNMC comment a little presumptuous. There are many entries that do not meet my present interpretation of out of balance, but I would not call them DNMC based on my judgement.

It will be interesting to see the high scoring images in this challenge and read the comments. Hopefully that will help to clarify the concept for me in a more concrete way (and probably illustrate why my entry may actually be DNMC).

Like PetRock, I do not mean to come off as complaining. Some photographic concepts are just harder to understand when one is not naturally artistically inclined. This is a good challenge to stretch my photographic understanding.

Yup. Banning me from voting on challenges I've entered would probably make me leave DPC. Although it is tempting to think that we automatically become trolls who vote down competitor's images, I think the number of individuals who actually do that is quite small.

In this particular challenges, I think it's because nobody actually recognizes an out of balance image when they see one :-) Two of my comments are DNMC - I'm dying to know how they can tell. In one of the infinite explanations of how an image can be "out of balance", they cited colors, lighting, cropping, etc. as ways for it to be oob. I feel like my image uses at least two of these methods, and to me it is "out of balance". In an effective way, of course :-)

Still a little above 6, but the margin is closing....

OK i've changed my mind about the voting thing, only because if tanguera was no longer here that would mean no tanguera comments & that would be sad.

You have rated 132 of 132 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 132 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 4.9167.

DONE IT AT LAST!! That was exhausting. Overall my average finished below average. I gave a one 9 and 4 7s. I am very interested in results, and whether my top pick gets the blue.

My own entry is sitting on 5.8, still better than expected but only 3 comments.

I am sucking at 4.4 something. LOL. I tried to make the picture as compositionally unbalanced if at all possible. . .then some critic. . who shall remain NAMELESS (LOL), told me it doesn't mean the challenge because it's not effective. I laughed when I read it, because it is totally true, but if you look at this photo

did not deserve to score .7 ahead of it. LOL.

Fickle and Fun.
