Hey guys, whats a cheap off-camera flash I can use with my 350D? It doesn't haved to be wireless, if there is a wired version.

The Yongnou flashes have a good reputation in some of the strobist circles. I have recently bought 2 inexpensive non-TTL flashes and some on their RF-602 wireless triggers.

Yeah, Yongnuo flashes really are a good deal for the price. I've also had good luck with older Vivitar eBay finds, though they're very limited in the settings
they provide(Usually only 1/3, 1/2 and full power)

Another good option is the old Canon 540EZ.... Great old workhorse.... There is no PC port in it but that is easily solved with a slide under thingi. Lots of power and goes down to 1/128 which none of the newer options do. One of the few old flashes that is still pretty cheap in flee-bay.

I'm thinking of buying one of the Yongnuo flashes but wondered whether not having TTL mode is such a big deal for messing about with still lifes etc at home?

It's not a problem at all for "still lifes etc at home", where you have plenty of time to fiddle and get it right. In fact, it's a GOOD idea because you'll learn a lot from it. Where TTL comes into its own is shooting on the fly without worrying about over-or-underexposure with the flash.

The LP120 and LP 160 also have very good track reputations. Some older Nikon flashes, if you can find them, are also great. SB24, SB26, SB28, SB28DX, SB80, SB80DX and probably some others are all good. Some will need you to add an optical slave, some have it (SB26, SB80DX have one built in, others may as well). The price on these all used to be super low but has gone up due to the popularity of Strobist and his suggestion to use them.
