Maybe it's just me, but there wasn't much to vote positively on for "FEAR". Just disapointed at the amount of people who chose spiders, bugs, and up close shots of faces. Thought it could have been a great topic to capture with the camera but most shots just seem stereotypical. Not all, but a majority.

The stereotypical-ness didn't bother me so much. The amount of shots that had a good subject for fear but were poorly considered, badly composed photographs full of technical mistakes did. It seems people spent a lot of time thinking of an idea then wimped out on the execution. Or maybe it's just that a lot of fearful ideas don't make particularly good photographs (to me). I'm not exempting myself from this category.

It'll be interesting to see who found my shot to be one of those "badly composed photographs full of technical mistakes." While I'm certain there may be some real problems with my shot, so far every one of the "problems/mistakes" that someone has pointed out has been completely intentional. On the plus side, it seems like some commenters have understood what I was going for, so I'm not a complete photographic outcast. *grin*

Yeah, I've gotten a few comments complaining about things that I did intentionally. A few more suggesting things that I already wanted to do, but couldn't pull off. And a TON pointing out the HUGE problem with it that I already knew about. I wish I could fix that problem and resubmit!

Based on your past submissions, I sorta doubt I was talking about you :-)

Hmmm, Good idea... Why don''t you reshoot it without that mistake and post a before/after somewhere and open a thread with a link to it after the challenge is over. It''d probably be a great learning experiance for everyone.

Hmmm, maybe I should even take my own advice here :)

You guys are not alone. I think only a few people "got" my shot so it's not like it's impossible, even though some didn't get it until the 2nd time they looked. It was not obvious and was not intended to be obvious because IMO that's the nature of the fear. There are a bunch of things I did on purpose that many people, according to the comments I've received, see as technical mistakes. My score reflects that. A couple of things I couldn't get quite right. Oh well...

Kimbly,

Well, you never know -- did you like my Hitchcock shot? If not, well..... *grin*

And in case anyone is wondering, I didn''t do anything even remotely similar to that shot in terms of content this week.

Actually, I don't even have to reshoot. I had two or three different "implementations" of the same photo open in photoshop, and was going back and forth on which to submit. I chose one, saved all three, and upped the wrong one!

I still really like the photo and think it's pretty good and original, but it's nowhere near as good as I think it could ahve been. (Of course, if all the comments said great things about the "mistake" I made, I would never let on that that wasn't my intention!)

I'll certainly be posting the correct one when the challenge is over.

Yep, that shot is really well done. I have to admit when voting I didn't see the person in the shower curtain...it really is hard to see on my monitor at work but shows up much more clearly at home. So I only gave it a 6 at the time. But if it's the grainy B&W raw quality that you're referring to, well, then I have a special place in my heart for those kinds of photos (see my
Ground up and City Life submissions) :-)
