Did you try what was suggested in this link?

What, 50mms f1.8s are delicate?! Mine is the one that gets stuffed carelessly into coat pockets, been dropped into deep powder snow and casually dusted off and used again, batted around on the floor by Destructo (though that happened only once) etc etc...maybe it's a brand-specific problem?

its a cheap lense, plastic case etc the canon one canbe had for £75 brand new here, somine is the same in pockets dropped in bags, im on my third one thought sent two back due to focussing problems etc one was only 1 day old when it first went tits up, new one seems to be fine :) wanting to replace it with the 1.4 though.

I think it can be fixed, and after that i think I heard something that you can just tape it to make it little stronger.

i never experienced anything close to that, my most used and abused lens by far. I love my nifty-fifty

It's hard to hold your aching head, and your lens, at the same time. It actually gets broken on the 1st, but the keyboard is too loud until the 2nd to send the email.

Cheer up, if it can't be fixed it makes a great hockey puck...which is what I just finished using mine as, for a game of road hockey...and then I took portraits with it afterwards...;-) jk

ha! funny to see this thread pop up again almost exactly a year later. I was able to pop mine back together. However a few months later it popped off again this time when I tried to fix it I couldn't get it to line up properly and then I don't know what I did but some of the wiring inside came undone and that was the end of it.

In the mean time I decided that I hate prime lenses. Not because it broke, but because I can't stand have to move around to get the right crop. If you have limited space for shooting this becomes a not so little problem. I think it's just a matter of preference though, I just find it hard to move back and forth when lying on my stomach at an infants level. I miss a ton of shots that way.

Hah... a number of Christmas' ago my wife bought me the 50m for my camera. So I've opened the present and I'm trying to pull the lens out of its packaging when it "popped" out of the box and fell to the floor. The front lens element popped out... I sent it in to Canon service and they fixed it and sent it back at no extra charge.... working fine to this day (although I try to avoid dropping it).

I know this thread is a little old, but it gave me hope.

My lens came apart today after accidentally being flung to the ground in the library. My photography teacher looked at it and said there was no hope for it. When I got home I removed the lens from the camera, put the cover on the back and snapped it into place. I gave it a shake and it came apart again. I turned it 180 degrees and snapped it in and it stayed! It even works!

None of the little plastic arms seemed to be broken when I inspected it at first, but i just didn't know.

Thanks for giving me hope!

atleast you said "bless her heart" when referring to your child. That really makes everything better. I would have bitten my lip...just like my dad did when I stepped in a gallon of whit paint...while he was painting the hallway...Let me add...I didn't stop running and ended up running into almost every room of the house.....It was also wall to wall brown carpet.....We got a new floor

Got your comment on Flickr letting me know you fixed it. The thanks really needs to go to zigomar who is the person that told me how to fix it. I just posted it where others could find it when needed, and they have.

The same happened to a mate of mine... Only dropped it on carpet, front element mount completely snapped.

I stole it from him and made this:
not the best photo, all I have here at the moment

It's a totally bastardised tilt lens. Produces some trippy images. Aperture is locked at 1.8 (no more electronics) which sucks for tilt.
