4 years a paying member, as I will be again. hopefully sooner than later. I have noticed several differences between membership and registered user “as it should be”. But one thing strikes me as kind of strange in that it would adversely effect the membership. As a registered user I am not able to vote on member challenges. Most member challenges have a larger submission turnout, especially free studies, and a large percentage of members have expressed they will not vote in a challenge they are entered in. It would seem to me there a lot of votes that are left on the table, and in a round about way, a lot of comments, yes I know I can leave comments, but really what’s the point, I might as well just run threw the thumbnails and comment on what I like.
I don’t know , but it seems this is a perk of membership that negatively impacts the membership.

it's an interesting point.

Alan,

I'm one who does not vote on challenges in which I'm entered. I see your point, and it does have merit. I don't know that I could say hat members are any more dedicated to photography than non members. However I like the opportunity to see how I do with the members of the site, as well as the general populace. So by having the difference in challenges I get to do both. That being said, if they changed it to allow non members to vote in all challenges, I would not be over in the corner pouting.

My thinking, although the score would be relatively unaffected “ DPC friendly will always be DPC friendly”. The vote count and inadvertently # of comments might just increase with a larger pool of voters.

I've never really understood why. I always voted in challenges I've entered in. I've even voted on photos where I knew the person who took them. I can be completely unbiased when I vote in either case, and I always had a hard time imagining others couldn't. But with that said, even if someone found they could not be, the number of votes cast so greatly overwhelms any individual bias to really matter. To each their own though.

Sorry...I stand corrected, I used the wrong word. should read "completely unbiased". I don't know what I was thinking.. :)

I think I've been the object of some of those "completely objectionable" votes. :-D

Serves me right for not proofreading what I wrote...
