thinking of a side challenge for january .. spose three months layered could be a bit too much for most ppl altho i'd happily keep going ..
anyhow, i recently found a heap of cd's with some of my older work on them ... done before i really knew much about photoshop .. some done on corel5 which is now a dinosaur ..
so .. is anyone interested in a side where we use our older artworks (any medium) or photos as the starting point and develop/process them in photoshop to something more ..
i'm a bit vague so any input would be very welcome .. :)

UPDATE ..
from the feedback i've decided to go with 'EACH TO HIS/HER OWN' .. that way each person can do their own thing for the month ..
let me know what your 'subject' is and i'll put it next to your name when you sign up .. :)

some suggestions ... revisiting old artworks/photos, images with quotes, sayings or lyrics, using your P&S, black and white, macro, slice of life, layered, portraits, where you live, pets, flowers, blur .. etc etc ..

IMAGES GO IN HERE .. ..:)

roz - revisiting older artworks/photos or whenever with quotes or sayings
Jutilda - macro
Kelli - snapshots
neat - whatever or possibly impressionism
tanguera - portraits .. gradients & filters & whatever
daisydavid - to be decided
pixelpig - tabletop photography
colorcarnival - off-camera flash or whatever else happens
MelonMusketeer - possibly in-camera processing
Lelez - gallery 2010
jomari - turning photos into paintings without picking up a paintbrush
gsal - portraits of total strangers
adamelliott111 - black and white & revisiting 2010 work
keenon - something involving the beach
sulamk - birds in the wild
JokersSoul - inspirational photos - with text incorporated
Germaine - whatever i feel like
dahlin - the birth of two daughters ? ... let me know brian .. :)
sfalice - experimental
ancientimages - Revisit prior work
aliqui - reprocessing past photos with maybe a splash of new photos throughout the month
cpanaioti - experiments with Corel Painter 11
sjhuls - still life
MattO - Probably a slice of my life
MAK - B&W imagery
iamwoman -
WriteHeart - revisiting old work - might drop a new photo in every once in a while
digifotojo - lake scenes
ScooterMcNutty - 1 month of BW
GregoryB - Some old, some new
idp - pictures of my garden
jminso - revisit my challenge entries and re edit them
tjbel05 - New England scenery
bootlegbob - Cemeteries and Hovels or whatever

I think Melethia did something like this a couple of years back. The idea was to edit one photo from your archives every week that you had not done anything with yet. It was meant to go the whole year but ran out of steam after a few months. Could do well as a side challenge for a month.

yes it seems that sometimes a longer side challenge does run out'v steam .. so this would be for the month of january ..
i've asked for input in the layered december side challenge ..:)

Hi Roz,
Life totally got away from me for the 2nd layered sc. I'm hoping some time will free up for whatever you end up cooking in January. We've done a cameraphone sc, but how about a P&S sc? Or see how brilliant we can get with low lighting images? Just got a little Sony for Xmas I'd like to take for a spin... Of course, revisiting hidden gems is always pleasant.

hey johanna .. i only did half a month for the december layered .. but it was supposed to be only what you could manage ..
i dont have a P&S .. but i reckon that could be included .. i'm pushing for revisiting hidden gems tho .. both photos and any sort of artwork ppl have done .. scanned in and worked on in photoshop or wotever .. :)

another idea i just had ..
i'm totally into quotes and sayings ..
its very hard to combine a quote and a pic or image so that they live together ..
that would be a really hard side .. quite the challenge .. !!
could use any artwork you've done or photos you've taken .. ??
??

another thought .. trying to decide on the 'subject' for the month might be difficult especially when everyone has a good idea ..
maybe we could decide on something we wanted to do for the month but not everyone would be doing the same thing ..
like some might want to turn photos into paintings .. some might want to combine an image and a quote/saying .. others might want to do something else ..
what do other ppl reckon .. :)

Sounds like a "whatever" challenge! LOL! Those are the best ones, everyone does their own thing be it old, new, under/over edited, painterly, etc. and so on. Those are the best sides anyway!

As I have to organize my 2010 folders my suggestion is as follows:
Put the best photo of each month, totaling 12 shots.
If you feel better, you can put two best shots of each month.
The rule is: the photo must have the correct date.
ex: two pictures of January, 2 of February , and will follow the order.
What do you guys think about?

I like the idea of revisiting old work - photos, paintings, whatever, especially with no rules. I also like the idea of 'whatever'. As far as a P&S sc, there was one in November.

i'm going with 'Each to His/Her own' ..
that way each person can decide on their 'thing' for the month .. whether its revisiting old artworks/photos and reprocessing them, photos/artworks with quotes, sayings or lyrics from songs, using their P&S, black and white, macro, slice of life, layered, portraits, where you live, pets, flowers, blur, have i missed anything ?!!

let me know your subject and i'll start adding names .. :)

Put me down for "snapshots", maybe I can turn it into snapshot art! LOL! It's all I seem to have time for anymore.

I'll be into the WHATEVER CHALLENGE, that way all our different ideas can bounce off one another, and then we can really grow in appreciation towards all the different and vast uses of photography.

I'm probably going to concentrate on portraits, since that seems to be where I'm headed, and trying to figure out how to use gradients, LOL! The other thing I love is found filters. But the whotever was a hoot. So, it'll probably be a lot of that as well :-)

Yes I'm up for the "whatever" side challenge. Haven't committed to a definite topic, but put me down for a place in the show ;) (please) (and thank you Roz, Jutilda and all others for your efforts)

I have a new camera & lens, so I'm up for a month of tabletop photography.

Illustrating an image has always been pretty easy for me. Maybe because I never stop talking, so I'm always full of verse. LOL

Whatever I decide to do, I'm in. :)

I'm in. I need something to make me take pics again. I'll do off-camera flash and whatever else happens :) Thanks Roz!

I've been watching this. Since it's going to be a come as you are party, I may try to be there.
I have a new camera, with processing capability, so it may be photos with in camera processing for my theme for this S C. I may only have time to put in one about every three days or so.

I´m in. I´ve been thinking of taking portraits of total strangers for awhile. I might try that in January.

I'm definitely up for this - oh, I see I'm already in. Good!

My first side challenge, put me down for black and white please :)
12/28/2010 06:05:33 PM · #23

After being so much happier with this than the original, I think I might go with turning photos into paintings without picking up a paintbrush. (But if I get my printer working then I might try some real hybrids.)

Hey Roz,
Looks like this SC is going to have some serious competition
