Hey Scalvert here is another Lie. I work close on Mac Labs also PC Labs. another Lie I work for one of the biggest computer company on the world. l'll keep that as a secret. ohh I forgot Is a lie. I was trying to help this guy in getting a cheap pc that's all. I have my cannon rebel DSLR 3 month before came to the market, ohh see another lie.

Good for you, Abreul! Do you feel better about yourself now? By the way, dear, you should catch a clue... NOBODY cares about your equipment, where you work, or what you are supposedly able to get your hands on. We don't even care about your need to lie about such things. What we do care about is that someone is requesting our assistance about a system that will suit his needs so take your 'bandwagon' elsewhere. :-)

Hi DigitalDave!

Not to refuel a Mac vs. PC debate but I used to use a PC. When the new iMacs came out I switched to the Apple platform and have been very pleased. I have since upgraded to a G5 which I bought refurbished from Apple. I would suggest that you at least take a look at their refurb units as you can get a really nice system for a lot less $$$ and you certainly don't have to use a pricy Apple display - you can choose just about any quality monitor and you'll be fine.

Good luck to you!

I have been using PS 5 LE that came with my camera, but am going to upgrade to PS7. My current computer is an e-machine with only 256K, so I am looking into a new system with more memory, a dvd writer, etc. I am assuming I will need much more RAM to run PS7 efficiently and have looked at the Sony Viaio's at the local Circuit City.

I would appreciate any recommendations on what you think is a good machine (or the right specs) for a computer used primarily to run PS7 and manage my digital photos.

I would appreciate any input you can give.

Going with just what you have given us, I could suggest upgrading the crud out of the RAM in your PC. Bring it up from 256MB to near or at least 1GB of RAM. You will be EXTREMELY impressed with the performance boost, unless you have a very slooooow processor, by today's standards.

My 'back-up' PC, which is an Athlon 700Mhz CPU with 768MB of RAM had worked quite well for me, until I was able to bring my main machine back up. It worked out very well for doing some editing, somethings took a little longer, but that was just from processor intensive issues.

If you have less then 512mb of RAM in your PC, photoediting will be a slow and sometimes painful process, when you have crashes that is.

Not true for everything - but for Photoshop, yeah, those things sweep up.

As usual, though, my eyes are bigger than my wallet. *sigh...*

So why don't they compare it to an Alienware MJ-12™ 4500 Extreme? Oh that's right that would be a dual AMD 64FX-53, can't have that. Where are the Pentium M's? What ever. :)

Actually Macworld did test the G5 against an alienware, for games, the Alienware kicked the G5's arse. In Photoshop, the G5 won...
